Depends what size Barbel you expect to catch? Personally I find the SS 26” perfectly adequate for fish up to 13lb’s in weight on the middle/upper Severn.

There was a recent article in Angling Times, where an angler rolling meat was using Sufix Tritanium line in bright red. The line was easier to track on the eye and made no difference to his catch rates. Sufix Tritanium is a cheap bulk spool sea fishing line.

Most of my larger Barbel come to meat, mostly large chunks inc half tin size. I never fish cube shapes and 100% during general Barbel sessions and especially after dark or in coloured water, it can out fish boillie/pellet approach.

I used the last of my Sticky Baits Elip Similar, but I use a small coarse file. You can put two flat sides on a single large elips pellet in seconds. As an aside, I’ve also just found a pot of elliptical shaped elips in the bottom of my freezer, which has made my day 🙂
