I went and ended up marching with my banner up the front end near the drummers. A really positive very well organised experience and I caught up with people I had not seen for years. So many groups from all sorts of areas and backgrounds pulling together. Being near the front I was very...
Found walking along a footpath in Denham Country park 100m from the river Misbourne. Not just able to walk out of water but able to live out of water for up to three months. The Red swamp Crayfish is another invasive to add to the signal crayfish, Mycid shrimp and every other invasive we...
Pick your evenings, damp and warm with a slight drizzle are the best. Get a torch with a red beam or cover a normal torch with a red film. Lobworms go back down their hole quickly with a white beam. Wear surgical type gloves, nothing worse than putting your hand in dog poop. Mark your lobworm...
Gerry lived local to me and we went to a couple of Barbel shows together. When I mentioned that a Roman well had been found close to us. I said we should get his metal detector out and find a Roman hoard or Villa. Watching the Detectorists after his recommendation got me dreaming of riches...
I remember Dave Chambers telling me he had caught the same Barbel 17 miles apart from the Arun and Rother. He also thought that sometimes on the Arun you could be fishing 17 miles from the nearest Barbel they are very mobile.
Sixty two sounds mad but I was told by a Bailiff about 5 years ago 92 came out of one of the swims in a full day (17 hours) between 2 anglers. One caught 78 and went home, another angler moved in and had 14. I was also told by a very efficient angler they had caught more than 92 in a day. Its a...
Caught lots of Gudgeon sized Barbel last Autumn from a small shallow local stream. Every swim had shoals of baby Barbel, over a mile or so I spotted hundreds. With the weed going last November a large white chested Cormorant appeared most mornings. Not seen one Barbel this Spring the Black...
What sort of size do they go to and how tight are the snags. I use a flood and snag 11ft6 inch Chimera and a Relum pin for hit and hold snag fishing, cannot be beat if the fish are up to mid Doubles. My Torrix 1.75 11ft just would not cope with some of the fights . The pin enables me to wind...
Around the mid 1980's on the Bristol Avon at Kellaways I arrived at the weir to find the pool full of barbel. The deep water was crystal clear and amongst around 30 Barbel were 3 Doubles. A rare fish back then and probably all the doubles on the stretch. I carefully worked out how I could lower...
Maybe the lads with broken chair legs and good covers could donate or sell the cover to the lads that have covers with stitching coming undone. Its fairly easy to replace covers and at least couple of chairs could be saved. Sounds like the quality of FOX chairs have gone downhill.
Back in the early 90's I used to fish 3 small black beads on a hair over a tight bed of hemp when fishing the Bristol Avon. Worked very well with shoal sized Barbel when the fishing became hard. Think there is an article on here by Keith Speer about baiting heavily with particle Maples? on the...
Spot on Graham, they did a 12-16ft lxl match rod that was a fantastic bit of kit, I have two. They then bought out a Superteam range to replace the LXL which was poor in comparison.
