Now you've done it! 😅 You could argue about why we are feeding cyprinids high protein, oil rich food in the first place when their systems are not designed to cope with it. 👍
I do agree John. I bought some and they were pre-drilled. I'm not too bothered either way really. In the past I have literally covered a 12mm elipse pellet in superglue to avoid it being whittled away by small fish and still caught big Barbel on it. I use other pellets fir no other reason than...
Interesting John. I have not found that 3mm pellet band splits an 8mm pellet at all. They are though very fine but strong. I use the Guru ones. I haven't had any trouble at all.with the pellets or the band breaking or the pellets coming off.
I like a mix of Robin Red and Marine Halibut and often fish one of each in 8mm on the Severn. Dynamite are good as are the Severn Valley Products Ambush. They stink! ( Garlic). I fish them on a hair and tie in a 3mm bait band which I pull through both pellets then add a boilie stop. I think it...
Lee. I have personally never used either Tiger Nuts or other particles apart from Hemp, Tares and Sweetcorn. Those three alone have always done for me but I can confidently tell you that Tiger Nuts, Peanuts and Maples will all work. I know people that have used them successfully. I think all...
He once said how he wasn't popular with the blank producers because he would reject many blanks for not being completely straight. Very fussy and it showed in the quality of his rods.
If you have fairly wide feet or a high instep all the Vass waders and boots I have tried are an uncomfortable fit. They seem to taper in at the front and pinch my feet. If you buy a bigger size your feet just move around abd rub. Who wants to wear loads of thick socks?! Pity really as they are...
I agree that a moving bait can make all the difference. I can recall times when I had a swim full of Barbel but no takes. A lift of the lead or feeder allowing the bait to move and re-settle evoking an instant take. I think it's the movement and not the bait itself that matters as it has been...
Another vote for pepperami. Caught some very good fish on it. Squeeze it and it oozes fat and oil, great for fishing but I won't eat it! One of my daughters, when she was tiny, loved the stuff and was always raiding my supply in the fridge! 😅
Someone on another site recently described catching a Throop Barbel as 'The Holy Grail'. How sad is that that such a famous, once prolific fishery has come to that. There a few there, don't get me wrong but it's generally the locals that can fish regularly and walk the banks to find them that...
Yes I share your worries. The real problem as I see it is that Barbel are a a species in decline in many rivers systems. Famous rivers like the Kennet, Hants Avon and Dorset Stour are a mere shadow of what they were. With poor water quality and lack of recruitment it is difficult to see them...
