I was on the fence at first but the quality of the story telling, the filming and editing is first class.
Loved the Above Bedford film, funny to hear of barbel of those sizes being taken on 1.25 rods and 8lb line, I remember IYCF having a article with Len Arbery going after Barbel with the...
I almost went for the light quiver but wasn't sure how light it actually was, I see the tips it comes with are under 2oz, is it too light for some Chubbing? Still going for the FS but could be tempted to get the Solitude also
Thanks,
I'll take a chance on one, I've been looking at them for quite a while, I've since found my perfect rods in the Shakespeare Solitudes but i have a gap in-between the 2 test curves I own and would also like a quiver section so will pick a FS up and see how I get on with it.
Thanks guys...
Thanks Kevin,
I've had a few of the Darent Valley branded rods before so I'll be used to the very slim handle.
Sounds like it will be perfect for what I'm after.
Hi guys,
I think I've decided to try out a FS River Tamer, I'm going for the 1.5lb version first and will add a extra 2oz glass tip for clubbing. I have been using a 11ft Drennan twin tip duo which I find very light and well balanced so hoping the FS will be similar

Korum ruckbag and chair from the latest kit, no it doesn't have chest straps and any other flappy straps that just get in the way and the chair isn't your sofa but they do the job
All tackle for chub/barbel fit into a korda basix box and that includes floats where the rig board should sit (2...
Hi all,
For sale is a selection of skp luggage by Shakespeare
Ruckbag, similar to the original Korum version with the Black hard base. Has a strap to secure a chair rather than hooks
Small unhooking mat, 1 of the elastic straps has been cut
Large tackle pouch
Folding tackle table
Looking...
Soon we'll only be left with those awful AD stores.
The brands are just to blame though, take Korum for instance, the bigger stores can discount their stuff to a price that my local independent dealer just cannot compete with.
I think as many others are going to say, brilliant rods, just built down to a price. Cheap rings and cork wrap over foam, but I have no issues with that.
0.75, 1.25 and 1.75 have all been in my collection. Classic through actions.
You can now buy them as bare blanks with the rings if you want...
I've already a perfectly good £50 barbel rod that does what I need on the Warwickshire Avon, I don't get many barbel and still haven't had one out this season yet
It was just a general question regarding the TC of some current rods Vs their quoted line and casting weights. The spec for the 1.25...
Thanks guys,
I'm probably overthinking things by the replies, as much as I'd like one I'm never going down the custom build route and anything I buy will be online without trying first, even something priced like a FS Barbel Tamer at around £160 I'd just buy blind, hence using quoted specs to...
I did a quick search and a 2.5 Torrix is meant to be rated up to 6oz?
If that same spec of rod was only rated at say 2lb TC then would you still be looking at it's line rating and casting weight range when weighing up your options?
This goes for any rod and price, all my rods are off the...
Hi all,
Not mentioning any brands but when it comes to deciding on a rod these days is it better to go off the test curves or the line/casting weight the rod has been spec'd with?
I have a 1.25 rod that's been given a line rating of 6-12lb and a max casting weight of 3oz, now this is the same...
Hi Alan, where are you based? I don't like the stores but Angling Direct local to me has them in, maybe your nearest store does also to have a look?
I took a look at them and they seemed great little bags, the top pocket sized for the Roving Blox which I also use, leaving the main compartment...
Yeah you can get some great deals on korum stuff. I've been a fan for a long time, admit I've had a bit of a moan about them at times but all my stuff is still korum.
I should point out you can hold a mat on the shakespeare bag but they are electric straps and not D rings to clip to.
I'd still pick the Korum bag though.
I love my Korum stuff, had the current Roving kit but just bought the 35L regular rucksack. Nice bit of kit.
Shop around, I bet you'll find the progress ruckbag cheaper than the shakespeare one
