    DIY Rod bands

I would suggest taking a look at Temu as they have multiple colours, lengths of velcro straps etc for very little money.

    Cork vs Duplon

You have a 15ft speci, lucky you, I will get one 😉. Only reason I haven't got one yet is because I rarely use a rod over 14ft. I found the accy plus to be a good choice to use for grayling, amongst numerouse others. I actually enjoy using a 14ft Browning sphere waggler rod when chasing the...

    Cork vs Duplon

Yea, the alconites are good, but if I had the choice i'd prefer to pay a little more for a rod kitted out with the SICs. The price daiwa charge for their higher end rods they should be kitted out with pure gold framed SICs !

    Cork vs Duplon

Hi Dominic, I had a few goes with friends 15ft rods on several occassions but I didn't like the feel of them preferring a float rod up to 14ft. I even got a Browning 15ft 6inch spliced tipped sphere, but after only one outing I decided to sell it as I really didn't like it. So about 9 months...

    Cork vs Duplon

To be honest i've had no issues with the metal end cap, but i'm very carful what I rest it on and usually lay the rod down on grass if possible. For quite some time now, I put a old but slim Wychwood butt protection sock on most of my rods to prevent scratches etc. When the acolytes were first...

Hi Neil, when you mention the acolytes' and components' quality going downhill, in what way do you mean?

    Freezing ice on line

Yea, I imagine it would coat the line going out and then coming back. I just can't be faffed messing with the stuff. I'm sure I remember someone telling me they had a small sponge or similar soaked with glycerine set up so the line ran over it constantly renewing a film of glycerine onto the...

    Freezing ice on line

If I know the air temp is going to stay below freezing then I give it a miss. I can't be faffed applying vaseline or glycerine to my line and guides. After saying that, I often set off in sub zero temps knowing that the temp will rise to at least 1 degree which negates the freazing water in the...

    Grayling

On several occasions recently i've used a 15ft rod (which I would class as being long) whilst wading. I have had no real problem reeling fish back to my hand and simply handing them out. So, "personally", and going off my recent experiences I would be happy to use a short handled net with a rod...

    hook packets

Cliff, I forgot to mention some small low profile plastic containers with individual flaps/doors and have magnetic bottoms. I used to empty the hooks into the compartmemts and put a little label on the lid stating the size of the hooks etc. I think the boxes I have are Korum and they were...

    hook packets

I keep them in their original placcy packets stacked together and put a laccyband around them, same as you Cliff. I sometimes put the laccy on round the middle of the packs and then twist it round and stretch it around the packs tops to bottom. That holds them firmly and snugly together.

    Chasing chub....

It was an amazing session and it was totally unexpected! I would swap sessions with the one you had the other day though 😉. I won't steel your thunder, but those fish you had were pretty much as good as it gets 👍.

    Chasing chub....

Hey Richard, no, that river runs into the sea eventually. Funny enough, I did get out today way down on a tidal stretch of the large river and had a amazing session catching chub and a few dace to add to the mix! I had 57 chub from about 2 1/2lb to over 6lb, only guesstimates, nothing weighed...
