    Garry, there is definitely less streamer weed than years ago but your quote .. but the lack of flow and floating green scum is horrible. .. when did you last fish the Wye ? Ive never seen it like that and its still full of fish, especially chub.

    yes I agree the Thames is a much harder venue but I think it still applies if there are fish in the general area you are fishing, obviously you can't catch what isn't there.

    Whilst I don't doubt that the information you can find is useful, especially in certain conditions, don't forget feeding fish will search for food and find your bait ! Trefor West used to say the definition of a barbel swim was the one he had his bait in.

    interesting topic, Ive caught lots of barbel and big chub when wading in fast flows and I never use a landing net, for the barbel I just wade back to shallower water and unhook them in the water, to be honest Ive never even considered the strain on the rod tip !!
