Things that go bump in the night

I guess there is the slim possibility Neil that it was cats spawning ?? I was fishing a relatively shallow area for the lower, so if there are a quantity of them around I guess it could of been? Do find it hard to believe tho...

Things that go bump in the night

Hi Jeff I considered the catfish, but I feel it was doubtful as at one point there were two happening simultaneously - one upstream and one 30 yards downstream - much as I don't doubt their presence I don't honestly believe they are around in those numbers. I discounted salmon as they...

Things that go bump in the night

After the sun goes down and the bats have woken up, when the sounds of passers by and traffic have faded out and the sounds of the night have settled in - I find myself, as I'm sure you do listening for evidence of fish moving. There's the thrash of a predator ploughing into unsuspecting fry...

    Polaroids

Uv400 is the level of protection against uv light. These days all reputable sunnies carry adequate uv protection, this in no way affects the vision through the lenses though. Polarised lenses eliminate reflected glare. Here is a website that describes how they work far better than I can...

    Polaroids

Maui jims I'd also agree that brown is best. Whilst a grey lens distorts colour less and is technically a more accurate filter, a brown lens will enhance the red part of the spectrum making fins and float tips easier to pick out. In my opinion a brown lens is also much nicer to look through...

    The next barbel river record

Nice idea this poll m'larky I vote Trent. I'd love to vote Severn, but unless some serious time is dedicated to the tidal reaches I cant see it. Warks Avon would be my each way bet though... again so underfished in places, something big could be lurking down there somewhere

    Peripheral noise spooking fish.

I'd appreciate your thoughts. When I approach a swim I try to be as stealthy as possible so as not to spook the fish... who doesn't right? The other day I was fishing the wye. I slipped quietly into position and carefully cast my light lead in with as little disturbance as possible. Just...

Aaaasrrrgghhhhhhh !!!! Broken my favourite rod!!!

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. I have refitted the tip ring to the top of the broken section for now and to be fair it doesn't seem that bad. That said, I will be contacting Harrison for a new section I think.... it just niggles me when it's sat in the rest next to the perfect one! Chris

    What was that?

It's only half a mile from where the big cat came out last time, so not really that unbelievable to think it was a cat

    Wide gape or narrow gape

I see no argument for narrow gape hooks.... Except for Pauls that is!
