Exactly Mark, this too is my style of fishing. I suppose as the club in question is a very carp orientated set up on the wide, slow moving stretch river that 99% of the membership have no interest in roving around as they'd need a small van to shift their gear each time.
What annoys me is the...
The thing that has stuck with me is how welcome I was made from day one. I think I must have been about 13 when I first joined the BS. Many of the guys, especially Steve Pope, and many of the membership had a huge influence on me and aided my own angling no end.
I think that my most memorable...
Freelander 2 isn't a bad wagon from what I hear, no better or worse than the average SUV, although it's one of the few Land Rovers I've not had. Freelander 1 however is a bottomless money pit in my experience and I was glad to get rid of both of the 2 I had. (I didn't learn hard enough the first...
After a long lapse of not renewing I felt that this year was the right one to rejoin. With the state of our rivers, I figure that any help the BS can get in the way of pennies in the pot and a membership boost will do no harm. If I feel that they're not accomplishing the objectives then I simply...
I often wonder why Land Rover repeatedly fail to install a correctly functioning sunroof that doesn't leak. The vast majority of other manufacturers manage it!
Our Td5 Disco used to leak like a sieve from the sunroof..... I ended up sealing the whole thing and making sure wifey didn't try to...
Can't knock the Rangers, tough, solid and pretty reliable trucks. My aforementioned farmer friend swears by his and the ones we have at work are great workhorses, though ours are all U.S. spec with thirsty petrol engines which I wouldn't want to pay the fuel bill for!
Selling my day shelter as I've only used it a handful of times and it's a bit too much to get on my motorbike now!
It's the mk1 version, super quick erection (ha!), superb condition and has its own carry bag. Ideal for the Trent/big river chaps.
35GBP (US government computer doesn't have...
I'll echo what Chris says, I've had several Defenders now, they're a great utility vehicle, noisy, slow and uncomfortable especially if you're tall. They can take any abuse you like but you'll soon get familiar with spanners and Britpart.
Avoid the Td5 engine if you can, if you get a good one...
Does Barbus Barbus grow any larger than our current record weight abroad? Does the warmer climate affect their optimum weight? Just curious really..... imagine what a 25lb+ Barbel would be like!
Them there EBNS do look the bees knees, and would be perfect. The price though! I'll keep my eyes open for one around here at a more sensible price...... I just asked one of my American colleagues if there's anyone on base that might have one, his response was that I don't have any sasquatch to...
I'm sure I saw somewhere that a river got stocked somewhere, up North maybe, with slightly bigger Barbel about 4lb sort of size? I'm assuming this is a rather expensive choice though despite them being more likely to survive.
I'm not sure it'd be a good idea to grow them on in a commercial...
I must admit, I did just think of reeling in and snoozing in my chair...... then again I was about 13 when I last did that and my back has just about settled again now!
I found a Polish army shelter on fleabay made out of 2 ponchos and a single pole to make a small teepee..... Not sure how...
Great idea John, I just found some of the Dutch bivi bags but they're rather pricey...... 12 nuggets sounds a bit better! I'll do a bit of googling around this evening and see what's about.
I always used to take them hexy stoves to the festivals, they could do the job for fishing, especially...
Hahaha you make a fine point! I do miss my van already, all the creature comforts for my weekly trip made it such a nice little escape...... I sometimes used to pack up a little earlier and wander round to the fine curry establishment and enjoy the consumption of whilst watching a bit of telly...
I'm afraid I'll be having to sacrifice my morning brew and sammich as there's no way I can carry it all on the bike..... I'm happy with a can of monster to get me up and going!
It's strange how little food I bother taking fishing nowadays, normally just a bottle of water or energy drink, maybe...
I really can't see them having any place in river fishing. Even on a big river like the Trent, if one needs such a ridiculous thing to hold bottom then one may want to consider either employing a bit of skill and fish upstream with half the amount, or fish a slacker area where the fish are...
