Good to see the Stour well within its banks this morning,.. still pushing too hard to run a float though.

Thanks for that Joe,.. really interesting. I’ve often thought there was a link between kingfisher plumage and light, as sometimes when I’m looking at a perched bird through the viewfinder I lose sight of it and think it’s flown only to find its still there almost colourless.

Unlike my old mate ‘the silver fox’ ( G.E.) I’ve never been able to photograph a kingfisher perching on my fishing rod. I bet there’s lots of you who have given the great little cameras on phones nowadays. I never tire of listening to that unmistakable call and hoping that little streak of...

    Tackle Adaptations Made at Home

Whatever Joe,… bait dropping 4 or 5 pints of casters plus hemp into a near bank swim has become a thing of the past since retiring,… have to economise with the humble fast sinking pellets I’m sad to say.😉😁

    Tackle Adaptations Made at Home

I liked the Thamesly type droppers but many didn’t I know. They were perfect for topping up a swim with casters using a dedicated rod upstream of my bait with minimal disturbance. I found them well balanced and usually emptied just where I wanted unlike the bigger jobby’s. The only problem I had...

    Tackle Adaptations Made at Home

Back in the 90’s I made myself a rod pod to my own specs with various attachments for indicators etc. It all folded down nicely but was a feat of over-engineered stupidity really. Alloy bar and tube with stainless fittings,…. worked well and spent many happy hours sat behind it admiring my handy...

    Tackle Adaptations Made at Home

Can’t remember how long ago it was when the little plastic bait droppers disappeared off the shelves but whenever it was, I made a batch at work because I liked them so much for hemp and caster fishing. I have others but these were a favourite. They reappeared some years later but my...

    Tackle Adaptations Made at Home

Back in the early 80’s I popped into a Dorking tackle shop and noticed some enormous bank sticks being sold as ‘Thames’ style. They were made from thick walled alloy tube around 1” dia and extended to 7‘6”. I thought they would make a bombproof landing net handle given a lot of my fishing back...

Sunrise across the Stour this morning ( well sort-of). Could’nt get near the main channel even with waders so this is the flooded adjacent meadows.

Quite so Damian,.. took a pic of this one by the D.Stour. I’ve got some pics of buzzards that are even lighter but they’re buried in amongst thousands of others.

Ha,.. no chance of me feeding them Richard. Despite signs along the bank telling folk not to feed the swans some still do unfortunately. I noted the two adult birds were absent this morning,.. not sure why. I used to enjoy fishing the opposite RDAA bank but got fed up with some that inhabited...

Testing,…. Could’nt upload this image until I cropped the long side a bit. Took two attempts.🙂

Dawn on the Stour this morning from the phone. I shall have to lug the proper landscape camera along to get better pics but I can never bring myself to leave the wildlife camera and big lens at home.

Autumn on the HAvon taken a while back when the lower valley wasn’t in constant flood like this year. Note the local resident photobombing the shot as I was lining up the frame.🙂

Angling is what got me interested in photography ,… just trying to capture some of the magical moments we witness when on the bank. Difficult to do both well though ,.. missed kingfishers and missed bites!!📸😂
