As the rods are sitting in rests for most of the time, balancing up the ideal sized reel is really not too important. However as you are going to be lobbing out larger leads and feeders particularly on the tidal sections then I would suggest a larger reel with quite a low gear ratio just to...
I have a rather large collection of stuck floats that i haven’t used for a very long time.
I generally go for larger body stemmed bolo float and more often than not it’s between 3-12g depending on the conditions and the river in front of me.
It’s about control more than anything else and I’ve...
I’ve heard some horror stories about them producing a sharp edge on the internal rolled seam. I’ve heard some go rusty and then there’s the strength of such thin light frames.
So far nothing to report
😂 just read this. it sounds like a below average fish when it’s worded like that.😂😂
“Caught anything mate?”
“Na it’s rubbish here. Just a couple of 13’s” 😂😂😂😂😂
I’m joining your fishing club
As you know I had very similar reservations on them also. I’m quite at ease with them now though. I think any weaknesses or points of failure in them would have come to light by now. It’s gonna be a hell of a tool for the slider float guys with such large bores on the guides.
I half expected...
I liked the 13 a lot but it’s just not a length in that particular power rating that I use hardly ever.
I sold my 14ft spectron too.
I do turn rods over quite frequently and only keep the really special ones.
The Preston is really becoming a firm favorite. That was really awesome to play...
As an ex owner of both I would say the RS PF rods are definitely as capable as the spectron. The action is a little different. In respect that the tip is faster on the spectron making it a bit more versatile. Both have rock solid back ends. Both capable of using 0.25 lines and big fish.
I...
I had a carbotec no2 which was a full system 3 different butt sections 13/15/17.
I was quite excited about owning it and using it before I’d actually tried one
I picked it up for a right bargain at 450 quid.
Been 100% honest, I Absolutely hated it!
I just couldn’t get on with it. The concept...
I used mine yesterday on the Trent in combination with the Preston supera x
Absolutely awesome it was they went together really well and dealt easily with big barbel in a fast current.
They are as you say just really excellent for trotting and some thought has been put into them.
I put a lot...
That’s what it’s about at the end of the day.
The users personal needs.
I certainly don’t contest his centrepins are built to a very high standard and I’ve been tempted many times based purely on how nice some of them look but the reality is for me they tick just a few boxes and a purchase...
They are very nice and built exceptionally well with afew really lovely little details in his builds that separate him from others.
I’ve never fished with 1 but I’ve handled afew and yes I can appreciate them.
However Chris has quite a fixed template with his reels and when you look at the...
Where do you see longevity issues with this pin Chris as I only see the plastic lever mechanism as a possibility there for failure and to be fair over the 9 months of abuse that I’ve given the 4 incher I’m quite satisfied that is a lot harder wearing than I first thought
Thanks Bill.
It was nice to Knock my mate @Terry Harman with his splasher😂 off the home page and have a proper one put up caught on a float and pin. 😂
You still up for giving me that lift on Friday Terry or have I blown it now 🤣
“Ugly” is a little bit harsh Dave. I had to cover them up while reading your post there so not to upset them too much 😂
Na seriously I do get what you mean, they are rather odd looking centre pins and I know that to some the looks is just as important as the function but I’m not one of them...
I want to talk to talk about these unusual centrepin reels.
I’ve recently received my second now and I find it extremely strange that they don’t get alot of press amongst float trotting guys.
I don’t believe many people actually use them. Whenever they come up for sale they seem to always be...
A Tip off from a good mate, and finally I got hold of one
Now have both sizes of this unbelievably brilliant trotting reel.
These weird looking true pins start themselves rolling like no other I’ve ever used, they are feather light and yet constructed out of one piece of bar stock making...
