    Chasing chub....

I forgot to mention, when I was playing in the largest of the barbel yesterday, I could make out another good sized fish of some kind swimming along side it, possibly a barbel or large chub and i'm sure I could make out some other fishy shadows/shapes around the hooked fish. I have often seen...

    Chasing chub....

Thanks HZ, its just a bit of old cut down bath towel which I use to hang over my trouser belt and wipe my hands on. I dunked it in the river, rung it out and used it to lay the fish on.

    Thanks Cliff 🙂👍.

    Chasing chub....

I recieved a new rod yesterday, "a 15ft long rod"! The longer rod proved to be very handy today as there was quite a strong gusty downstream wind and the extra length made mending the line and controling the float easier. It was about twenty minuites before I caught a chub of about a pound...

    Freespirit Tamer Power Float 15'

If i'm picturing your description correctly, that sounds like a very dodgy manouvre Cliff. Too much pressure on a short section of the rod and the pressure is applied in the wrong way.

Be careful they don't do some gymnastics and impale themselves on your float Richard 🤪.

    Tench 2025

What a great session, and achievement to catch those tench so early in the year! Float fishing for tench is a very close second to trotting for chub and barbel for me, brilliant stuff.

    John Searl art work....

Are there any other fans of John Searls art work here on bfw? I'm very much a fan of his work, but unfortunately I only have one "propper print" of his, the barbel one. I did look out for his prints on ebay, fb etc but when any of them came up for grabs they were too much money for me. I got...

    Chasing chub....

Yes, you cocked up there Rich, the reel worked great today, no prob's at all with the high line lay in a quite gusty winds.

    Chasing chub....

Several hours swimming the stream today, felt nice when the sun came out and the rise in temp's (12 degrees) definately switched the barbel on! I had had enough afrer 9 barbel and about 10 chub. A couple of pics from the session....

    What are you favourites hooks?

That only usually happens when a fish is foul hooked Daniel, could you clearly see where the fish was hooked? If it was lip hooked then that hook must have been faulty surely. I don't use those myself, as you probably know I use super spades and acolyte superspades, acolyte grippas for the...

Darent Valley 13ft 2 piece specialist float rod.

To be fair Chris, I had dace etc when I used one of your freespirit advanced power float rods as well as chub and barbel and it was fine. The chub and barbel did put a decent enough bend in it and the tip section was surprisingly bent over with the dace and chublets. I only used Chris's rod...

Darent Valley 13ft 2 piece specialist float rod.

Me too, I prefer a 3 piece. The 11ft hardy avon rods are mangable in their two section models, now they really would be ideal for Neil if he could cope with a foot shorter rod and the cash outlay. Hardy also do a 11ft 6inch avon which again would be ideal.....no floppy mid sections on them avons!

Darent Valley 13ft 2 piece specialist float rod.

Yea, I forgot about that 🙄, although it is easy to strap a 3 piece up just the same as a 2 piece....for me at least. There are the two piece free spirit float rods like the ones Chris has, they would be ideal for Nieil purpose. Im sure chris will see this and possibly leave a comment about them.
