I used to use different tc's for different venues but recently ditched everything under my 2.25lb daiwa theorys and use them exclusively. I don't think a barbel knows whether it lives in the swale or trent. I was at the trent a couple of months ago and had a 5plusser which believed itself to be...
I've just bought a top end Daiwa rod and the bag it came in is top quality! I also bought some second hand barbel rods from a fellow member on here and the bags they came with were/are very good!
The 4000 is quoted to be ideal for floater fishing/close range tactics for carp, the 3000 is quoted as being ideal for big river/barbel fishing.
The 4000 looked pretty similar in size to the 2600 in AD a few weeks ago, which is why I presumed the 3000 would be similar in size to the 1600 (which...
I'm surprised about the clutch, recent reviews and I believe Daiwa also state that the clutch on the GS has been improved???
The 3000 looks like rocking horse shit now anyway!
My bad,,, it's the GS3000ltd
DOH!!

Edit, I see you may be sorted now!
If you get no joy I can recommend the GS3000GTI I've just bought the 4000 for floater fishing next year and reviews have stated it has an improved clutch and line lay than the SS range. I'm not positive but I reckon the 3000 will be a similar size to the 1600, the 4000 is similar to the 2600.
I...
Nice job!
Dave Lumb did an article in his blog with something vey similar. I bought the white and clear shrink tubes but never got round to doing it.
It's the whipping that puts me off doing it, that aspect of the job can the difference between a really nice job as in your pic or a bit of a mess.
Keep an eye out for the Daiwa theory rods in 2.25lb, they come with a standard top section and a quiver top section with, in my case, a 3oz and 4oz quiver tip.
The old rule of thumb was maximum line bs is 5 x the tc.
A very general standard but in my experience not far off the mark. Obviously there are exceptions to this, the use of braid being one, fishing in areas where lines could be easily be cut etc.
The 1.25 avons I use for perch fishing have...
You said types, not sizes. Most threads these days are 60 degree pitch, whitworth was 55 degrees. I forgot to mention BA in my previous post, commonly found in electrical wall plug sockets which have now I believe have gone to metric.
It's also nonsense that imperial threads are cut into...
Most threads used today are metric but the standard thread used on fishing tackle is, as I'm sure you're all mostly aware, is 3/8" bs
If you have a pair of vernier calipers, a quick measure will give you the OD and that will usually be the thread size in mm.
You can use a rule or tape measure...
I posted a similar thread about a combi rig a few years ago and I was also pretty much shot down in flames for it.
If I feel the need for short braid hooklink at the end of a long, heavier trace, I sometimes just tie a micro swivel inbetween the two and put a blob of putty on the swivel. The...
I bought a pair of the originals in 2.25lb from Phil Maggs a few years ago, they're all I use now no matter which water or state of levels.
If the new models are as good, then they're going to be great!
I think the key word was budget, the gardners, although bombproof aren't what I'd call a budget alarm.
Most tackle shops have cheap alarms on the shelf...
I was under the impression that eastward flowing rivers, that were historically connected to mainland europe were natural barbel territory.
I don't know if the Tees, Wear or Tyne fall into that category, I reckon the Humber estuary definitely would and certainly the more southern waterways...
