Looking like there might have to be a change of location as there's been no responce from the club all week despite the positive reply earlier this week. Think they were expecting a 5 hour match not a full weekend. :(
Agreed - that was a magical moment, perhaps the best fish of a series of whoppers! I love the scrap with the barbel on the Gt Ouse when Martin's giving it some and you can see the fish just sat there mid river hardly trying - really illustrates well what it's like to get stuck into one of those...
More palatable Rich? Why? Are the pies better down that way?! :D Guess it is a long way to travel to spend a weekend with a bunch of pie munching not rights but you can count me in if it goes ahead. :)
Do a Ribble one Jez in June, but a change of stretch from the BH one. ;) Perhaps a few of the ousemeisters might attend since they have been infiltrated from the west once or twice!
I would also recommend both those books, JW's Catch series are great books for the novice covering the essentials of each species. Not a lot has changed over the years, except bait. With most popular stretched getting hammered on pellets and boilies these days a switch back to the old...
Eddie - the reason being, whilst other countries recognise the problem, decide on a plan ( cull ) and then act on it ( pick up arms and shoot the buggers ) we here recognise the problem ( cormorants ) decide on a plan ( cull ) then we try and rally public support, try and push a bill through...
Not the first time either! He'd already snapped one on camera a few series previous whilst fighting a Lake Trout in Canada!! :D "My old mate Nap in Canada will remember fights like this" he said whilst hanging on to the Vundu Catfish. Great shows.
I get that feeling too during some episodes, but then i've never been involved in a plane crash on route to my fishing destination! In all seriousness i think River Monsters is one of the best shows on TV at the moment - Why? Because not only do i enjoy watching it, but i'm allowed to watch it...
I think Danny and the Korda crew have done more to bring Carp angling to the masses than anyone. Some see it as a huge product placement exercise but i actually find it very informative and have learnt a great deal from those shows.
Pic of the bunch for pure entertainment would be Henry...
And a certain Mr Fairbrass had him on one of his TV shows to explain the method in detail giving full acknowledgment to him. Danny may be a millionaire off the back of his products but credit where it's due - if he uses a piece of terminal kit from another manufacturer he's more than happy to...
My thoughts exactly. It's like that Dogs Trust advert - " sponser a dog and your new friend will even write to you " ! WTF! It's a dog! - what they're basically saying is give us some money and we'll employ people to write letters to you while pretending to be homeless dogs.
There is a 3rd theory that suggests that the average fish you caught first chuck has disturbed the big ones and they are now on edge. It's not that there are no big ones in that area - they are just not in the mood for taking the same bait the 'tester' got caught on! ;)
That there are Stu, such a shame the feedback rating service doesn't work both ways. Still, you can rest assured that any feedback recieved to a seller from a buyer is genuine and i'm quite proud of mine.
Good shout that Graham. Having issues with a guy at the moment. 100% rating but having read the comments since the issues started - an obvious wrong un. Didn't realise sellers couldn't give negative feedback - lesson learnt.
My thoughts exactly, and seems to be the case on the other river i was thinking of in an earlier post even though the same fish was caught a couple of weeks later over 1lb 8oz lighter!
The flip side to it all is that i know of at least 2 rivers that have produced bigger barbel than the...
