Talking of river carp, I was very fortunate to have a 28lb Thames grassie back in June and that fought like a poof, till I got on the mat that is. Also had a 7lb Thames barbel last month and I was convinced it was going to be a big fish the way it battled, awsome fight. D.

Darren's made a good point though. Commercial puddle fish are clearly not going to fight particularly hard if they are caught every few days. But hook a river carp that's not felt steel before and you'll have your string pulled like you've hooked a runaway train. D.

You'd of thought Stephen. It's local to me and I'd consider it but at £100 and without closer / secure parking it's a no for me and many of my friends. There might well be free parking at the bottom of Home Park but as it's quiet and lonely cars regularly get done - I should know as I work...

Trying to be a good boy and stop going to the chippy on a Friday night to get cod 'n'chips which I'll eat in my swim :p. I also like a pie or sausage roll but they are just so bad for the old cholestarol. Have tried Pot Noodles but they are just rank ! Have found Pasta Pots to be very good...

Nice double ! My first this Spring / Summer. I've lost several good fish to hook pulls and have had a huge run of blanks to get to this fish. Hopefully I'll pick up a few now I've broken my duck. 6.12 male fish. Duncan.

Reels - definately Shimano. Rods - Fox, they make some lovely barbel and specialist rods. D.

Sensor brown for me also. Use it for Thames carp and barbel work and it's tough as old boots ! D.

Has anyone ever used cooked rice for tench in conjunction with white maggots ? Just trying to make my bait go further as grubs cost so much. Figure it would be good to bait a swim with in a mix consisting of hemp, pellet and rice and then fish maggot over the top. Any thoughts. Duncan.

About two years ago I was in my garage tying up rigs. Gripping the braided hooklength between my teeth I was just tightening up the knot to the swivel when the line cut off and a size 10 suddenly pinged up my right nostril ! :eek: A gentle pull on the swivel only served to ***** the hookpoint...

Also purchased the reels, a pair of the 4000 size baitrunner type reels, which I'll spool with lighter line for roach, chub and perch fishing. I think as an ocassional use reel they'll be fine but I wouldn't want to rely on them week in week out for barbel, I'll stick to my shimano's. They...
