    Bobco - In Administration

I heard a rumour a few weeks ago about Bobco in Leeds going into administration Just picked this up on another forum Damn shame - great shop and people and some good bargains Made many purchases and dropped in on the Swale on the way home to try gear out 🥲 They are having a closing down sale...

Avon rod - lightweight eye choice

hi Chrstian I’ve just got my 1.25 chimera out 7 rings + tip and all double legged Torrix 1.25 has mainly single leg rings which appear fractionally smaller I use a float rubber up the mainline to catch weed and it does catch in the tip ring of the Torrix but not the chimera , one of the...

Avon rod - lightweight eye choice

They are a very through action / soft blank in 1.25 - bit too much for my liking I only use mine for perch fishing with loafer floats nowadays Assume you were comparing identical blanks , rung differently? Number & spacing does make a big differnce These are both C3s Less is definitely more for me

Avon rod - lightweight eye choice

I have one that Dave Lumb built and I was just having a look to see what rings he fits as standard but I’m not sure - Fuji but not sure which model- whatever they are the are perfectly good The deep draw SIC rings that mark Tunley uses a lot are also excellent - I have them on quite a few rods...

    Hooklinks again

Been there and got that t shirt Mark I am a serial tinkerer IMHO Chub are harder to catch than barbel so your tactics seem sound enough. It’s a well used phrase but so true “ you can only catch what’s in front of you” Maybe try different feeding techniques? Getting that right can make a big...

    Hooklinks again

Are you struggling for bites? If so you might need to also consider hook and bait size , especially in low clear water I’ve used loads of hooklink material and have settled on Dave Harrell pro-rig in 0.26(13-8lb) It’s a good quality mono. There are lighter sizes but that suits me and I’m...

    2lb rod and reel recommendations

2lb Torrix is a lovely rod but a bit tippy. I wouldn't feel confident swinging out 5-6 oz feeders. If you could get a 2nd hand chimera 3 ( 2.25) that would be my choice or as was discussed on here recently a 2.5 Chimera is lovely for flood work and generally better VFM Lots of other really good...

    Flavouring Hemp

I'm going to continue to go off piste but along the nothing ventured... route. I bought 2 pints of mediocre maggots ( been there a few days) on Saturday. Decided too hot on Saturday so waited until Sunday Come Sunday Maggots were sweaty so on the spur of the moment , I went into the kitchen and...

Bit of fun... What's everyone's preferred boilie of choice

I’ve tried quite a few and 12mm sticky baits krill have consistently caught when pellet and naturals aren’t doing the business If there was one boilie I could get it would be Teme Severn liver & lamprey . Still got 31 left for that special occasion , not that I’m counting🤣

    Custom big river rods.

Again interesting I’ve been using a 1.5 DC alongside a 1.25 Torrix for a few season as NSL Torrix is the downstream ( plenty of grunt if needed to stop kiting fish) rod The DC is my sleeper upstream rod and bends like a chimera 2 but I wouldn’t describe as that powerful- but puts a smile on...

    Custom big river rods.

I think he refers to the CS12-SU ( chimera 3) as the only barbel rod you need on his website - this is a 2.25tc I was talking to him a few weeks ago and he said that’s all he uses for barbel.Typical Dave - no BS. I have them and for heavy feeders / bigger casts they are awesome but not too...

    tough start

Lots of small barbel but average size well down on previous seasons. Chub on the other hand are fantastic- some huge fish that are mid- upper sixes now , so should be special this winter.🤞
