I tried using fluorocarbon as a main line and as reported in the Barbel Ways and Days video it spooked the fish. I had three screaming runs which turned out to be line bites. I was fishing the Wye. As a result of my experience I only use it for combi hook lengths.
I wish Hinders did 19 kilo bags of C Food pellets and 4ml rather 4.5ml pellets in that range as you can't use them in a feeder unless you start widening the holes.
Just ordered £60 worth of stuff yesterday. No free delivery and they have increased the price of X3 bags of C Food pellets from 10 to 14 quid. This makes it cheaper to buy Vortex or Three Twitch pellets in bulk cheaper.
Time for a change sadly
I have Castism reels paired with Torrix 1 75, 2lb rods and on my Chimera No 3s. They are great reels and, bearing in mind, when feeder/lead fishing the balance of rod and reel is not something I care about as I am not holding the rod for long periods. The rod / reel balance is a different...
I agree Richard. I stopped using barbless hooks when feeder fishing because the loss rate was significantly higher than my friend's loss rate. They were using barbed hooks
Nash Fang X size 10 for pellet, Nash Claw for bolies, they are wide gap, and I am trying out Gardner Target size 12 hooks for maggot fishing. I have had to many hook pulls using Drennan Specialist size 12's.
I use strong lines for my floating fishing due to the swinm conditions, some are snaggy, I have to contend with when fishing the river Wharfe.
I am not concerned about the rod to line rating ratio as the only situations that I have experienced where their is a risk of damaging my rod had...
I take a rucksack with every thing in it. My rod and reel is already set up to fish. When I am float fishing, I keep terminal tackle in a chest wader pouch and have 2 maggot/bait bags.
In total agreement with you in this point. I bought a 13.5 Mark Tunley rod to deal with the scenario you mentioned. In hit and hold swims soft action long rods give the fish the edge in snagging you up.
Like other contributors to this thread, it's a sad to learn the Future Angling are closing. It was a brilliant independent shop. AD are a national company, but they are not cheap IMO.
