Dealing with Mitten Crabs on the Tidal Trent

Braid hooklengths ae fairly effective against Spider Crabs when Sea fishing, who perform the same snipping trick, so should help against the Mittens.

Line recommendation for trotting for barbel

Reflo power or Silstar Match Team.

    Bail arms

I can't believe anyone uses the auto trip, you're asking for line problems especially when using braid. Don't see the point of on/ off anti reverse, either.

    Bail arms

Does anyone actually use the automatic trip?

    2.25 and tc Barbel rods.

I guess those are older versions as it looks like the rings have ceramic inserts. On the new ones, the rings are actually lined if you look closely.

    Wild fishing

That is true, but then there's the calculated risk thing, I think all of us take chances we probably shouldn't if there's the prospect of a big fish.....

    River Trent float rig.

Good post, and some nice tips. Personally I dislike straight through, you can easily lose all your gear if badly snagged and I'm a tight git!

The 11 ft Carp Waggler may suit you, I've got the 12 ft and it's a fantastically versatile float rod.

Why is the Severn record so low ?

More to do with water pH than temperature, I would have thought.

    JW Young River Specialist centrepin

Hi Richard, Not ledgering, I mainly fishing quite jungley places and just moving around can become a chore with the light rachets of most pins.

    JW Young River Specialist centrepin

The RS is a nice looking reel and works fine, apart from that ratchet! I bought one because I liked the idea of being able to tighten the ratchet up when moving between swims, Personally I find the rachet on most pins too weak, and I seem to spend an annoying amount of time reeling up loose line...

    JW Young River Specialist centrepin

I much prefer the Bob James to the River Specialist for trotting due to the single handed operation of the ratchet lever. The RS rachet is very stiff.

I'm not sure about the fishing gear, I think they might be taking the piss...:p https://www.temu.com/uk/vib-flash-bait-rose-gold-gun-black-glitter-slanted-slice-fishing-bait-for-fresh-and-sea-water-g-601099516991441.html?refer_page_sn=10012&r_pid=933&r_idx=43&refer_page_el_sn=200064

Having read all this I'm wondering if the forum could have a " best practice" sticky , if it doesn't already?

    Pellet size.

On a recent trip to the Wye I had some old pellets and some new, the old ones had been kept well sealed up and dry. They didn't smell any different to me, and it seemed they didn't smell any different to the Barbel.

    WYE FISHING-ANYONE BEEN RECENTLY

Hi Tim, I was up there this week. To my knowledge, not that many beats have vehicle access along the bank. Lower Hill Court is one, and Middle Hill Court has parking right on the river and various pegs nearby, but you cannot drive along the bank. Coarse and game on the same beat? I'm not sure...

    River Lot, France

Have a look on fishing magic, there's a Chap on there who lives in that area and fishes it regularly.

    Line recommendation.

Reflo power is my choice, followed by Silstar match team.
