I think I would lean towards an OC ,D or Thunnus baitrunner, in the 6000 size... or depending on your distances regarding lake work, even the 5500 medium baitrunner. But for me, up to 2lb test a 4000 would be perfect for the river. But not for distance work on lakes, so a bit of a conundrum...

What are you using it for Gavin , and what size/weight rod.?

Have you tried the fox fast mat, ice had mine 2 seasons now it's stable , light weight and 108x50. Perfect for any barbel caught in the UK...

Hi Gavin, I had one 2 seasons ago and didn't really get on with it, it gets harder to draw the string after a few uses , and also let's water in via the holes ....

My favourite by far too is the 11ft 2lb Torrix, "weirdly wonderful ". Is probably the most honest description I've heard. Just a cracking barbel rod....

I did the same sort of thing Jon from Australia, 4 6000thunnus for 166 each. Import tax at 2.5 percent . Bargain. The 4000s are only 157!!

Is personally be fishing after the rapids in the more oxygenated waters, especially if there hasn't been much rainfall..
