    Wintering chubbing

All good advice above. If I'm trotting I tend to use mags. Catapult out three big pults full into the chosen swims (preferably a far bank tree line). Then continue to fire out a couple of dozen mags every 4mins or so. Keep doing this for half hr then cut back to half a dozen/dozen mags for...

Barbel Society Show Last Sunday 4th June

I would imagine that attendance in specialist group meetings is down across the board and will continue to fall. Going back 30 years there were three ways to learn - getting told, reading books or attending Society meets and listening to the speakers. With the Internet all of the info is...

    BIG CHUB

With regards the Dorset Stour and Hampshire Avon I would make the following observation: The Stour had a decent record for producing 7s a few years back but they are much more scarce nowadays. The Avon on the other hand seems to be offering an increasing opportunity of a 7.

    Head torches and swim disturbance

For what it's worth, I said yesterday that I've been enjoying some quality roach fishing in the dark illuminating the float with a tourch. Interestingly, this evening I fished two feeder rods in the usual spot so no need for the tourch. Had four between 5 and 5.30 but didn't have a bite...

If you want the rod for chub fishing Neil, i would definitely stick to a plus. Ultras are fine for roach fishing.

Thanks Paul. This particular one is almost tame. He's always around the same area of that fishery. I've even had him run underneath my chair!

Yes it is. Had a reasonable day yesterday. Started on the maggot and scratched out 5 fish by lunchtime. Switched to liquidised bread and punch ended up with 27 roach ((all netters bar four) and a dace

    Roach

For what it's worth Matt, further to my comment above, under such conditions you will often find the fish in completely slack water but as I say they are very contrary so try a few spots

    Roach

I find roach the most contrary species. But in answer to your question Matt I would say conditions similar to barbel. If warm water has entered the river after a prolonged dry period

    Zander

Well following a thoroughly enjoyable visit to Worcestershire and my first ever zander last year I was back for a two day visit this year. Unfortunately the rivers were going out of sorts and I spent the day on the Severn Monday without a bite. With both the Severn and Avon rising rapidly by...

    H Avon/ D Stour condition?

On the Avon again today. Dropped about 4" during the day. No rain forecast tomorrow, Sunday or Tuesday. Key thing about the Avon Kevin is it takes a lot of rain to have a really detrimental effect. Hope you have a great session.
