Yeah gotcha, I’ve always had the line coming off the bottom which is why I couldn’t quite figure out doing a wally with line off the top. No rights or wrongs just what you’re used to or feels right.
Something feels a bit off about this, a mismatch between the video and audio.
The video looks as if it was filmed by a hidden camera or surreptitiously (kept low, put on the ground etc) but the audio sounds like it’s coming directly from the radio mike on the angler. Odd.
Thanks for the detailed write up Richard, very interesting and definitely food for thought. I’ve often wondered about these as have a Super Lightweight myself (my go to for silvers). Looks like you got a minter.
Never had an issue in the rain with any of my pins. Only time I’ve had grating was when mud/groundbait/maggot dust got inside which is more likely on the aerial type pins.
I was lucky enough to get one for my 50th and it is an excellent trotting reel. Superb build quality and smooth as butter. My no.1 choice when trotting (the Stanton comes out when jungle fishing). No monsters on it yet, biggest 7lb, but I’m sure it would handle anything. I usually pair it with...
All my fishing trips are via train/bus/tube, so totally agree with this sentiment. Two pc 12 ft rods are a no-no. Like @Huanzhou Zhu I tried the Korum Opportunist Xtnd rod. Tried it once, hated it. At least my broom now has a new handle.
Now, if legering/rolling, I use the JW travel rods (Avon...
On the Medway too:
I know two were released by some idiots on the Wandle about 6 years ago. The EA electro fished for a bit but eventually gave up. I saw something very moggy like last season during a river clean up, I almost filled my waders as it shot past me.
I think the thunderstorm effect is more related to a sudden loss of oxygen from the algae combined with a large run off of dirty water with high biological or chemical demand. Together they crash the dissolved oxygen content. I guess it’s complicated and lots of factors play a part.
Totally agree, all my tench this year have been on the waggler. Very satisfying but also frustrating watching little knocks, dips and swirls of the float. Last session I had a textbook lift bite…only to reel in a roach. Subsequent cast out and my second tench took prawn on the drop (I’m guessing...
I managed a couple more on the ‘pin yesterday eve. Messed up the pics as I was too bloody cold! Honestly at the end was glad to pack up and the long walk home just to warm up!
Had some nice fish in the morning on float & ‘pin. Fished pellet & corn over groundbait, no loose feed to help avoid the rudd. Sticky bloodworm & krill gb & pellet. Worked well although 3 bream crashed the party. Apols for ugly mugshots
The Korum Glide is a bit of an odd beast. I’ve got the 12-14ft, yes it’s got tons of power and yes it’s landed me a lot of barbel, but for trotting all day it feels heavy.
In reality it’s not that heavy for a power float rod, but due to the balance/weight distribution you feel all of its...
