Good post Dave and I fully agree although both spools appear similar in looks the clutch on the D seems smoother. I didn't fiddle about with any of the spools to investigate the inners as it was hot, I had cba and I'm not one for messing...:D

I took the spools off both my 4000d and 4000oc and swapped them over, all my reels are attached to rods and set up, so I didn't do much more. The spools did fit and on the outer look exactly the same apart from the colour.

If buying 5000 size Shimano i would go for the gte B or C's
I have had the gte and gte re and they have both been snatchy clutch (well both of my set's have)
I fish the Ribble and use two Shimano 4000 OC and i also have a 4000 D (small knob) all with front drag which i find...
Strange he has a lot of good feedback dating back to 06 then recently it's gone tits up......he doesn't appear to want to part with his Daiwa theory :eek:
