    Winter Grayling mission

To revive this, I’ve been to the test at timsbury once and the lower itchen twice in the past couple of weeks. In my view at the moment the itchen is fishing far better as its coping much better with the lack of rain we’ve had. I had a handful of grayling from the test but nothing of note, but...

    What 15ft rod for grayling

I use the 15ft plus, it’s plenty powerful enough for grayling, probably too powerful, but my reason for using it is its also powerful enough to cope with the trout which are always close by

    Chasing chub....

I’ll be sure to try more intricate tweaks next time, but I also think despite having a good day today, they will feed more willingly when the river has a bit of flow to it. Septembers rains seem to have only been absorbed by the ground, it’s very low atm

    Flavours for home rolled baits...

I got recommended Frost & Flood, but I don’t plan to roll my own with it. After speaking to JB about my idea and him thinking it was a great shout I’ve added a drop or two to a small diffuser mixed with water and I’m going to spray soak my pellets with it in the colder months

    Chasing chub....

Funnily enough Graham I did give them a go and couldn’t get a touch despite the swim being black with fish, they weren’t a bit interested if a white maggot was involved either, red got hit immediately, nature eh!

Centerpin reel angling channel on youtube?

    Awesome session and video mate.

    Chasing chub....

Had over 20 chub at around the 1.5-2lb mark today while actually trying to chase dace, had 9 barbel too. All on trotted maggots, didn’t get a single dace or roach all day despite there being giants amongst the shoals. Guess I need to fine down further, but that risks getting broken up by the...

ROMSEY VINTAGE TACKLE FAIR -SUNDAY 5th OCTOBER

Do the stands take card or is it cash only? I’ve never been but I might take a trip down this year

    Winter Grayling mission

Thanks Graham, I’ll give that a go on the itchen when I go.

    Winter Grayling mission

Hi Graham, that’s the stuff I have now, the one I used before was from a company called fresh baits, they no longer exist unfortunately from what I can find. Their red corn was almost the same colour as a pomegranate seed, much deeper and darker. Whether it made any difference who knows. Wish it...

    Winter Grayling mission

a bit further afield but there’s also a decent free stretch of the lambourne in Newbury that’s full of grayling, albeit a little smaller in size.

    Winter Grayling mission

I had a couple of 2s from timsbury last winter but not the itchen, there are plenty that do get caught though, I’ve just not quite sussed the lower itchen yet, going in a couple of weeks on a club day to try again. My 2s at timsbury have all come later in the day, and also by feeding a bit...

    Footwear Advice

I’ve got a pair of miendl Bhutan boots and a pair of Grubbs snowline wellies for when it’s freezing. The bhutans are certainly waterproof, have vibram soles for slippery ground and are very supportive which is perfect for me as I’ve sprained my left ankle 5 times (twice very badly) and broke it...

    River Colne

Most of it (there was one section that used to be Boyer leisure - I think that maybe the private bit?) the rest is a mixture of GXUDAS and Uxbridge rovers, with North Harrow waltonians having the stretch behind stockers further up towards the aquadrome

14 foot float rod storage and transport

I use a vision fly rod tube, the 5ft version (I think they do a 6ft too as well as a shorter one), can fit 4 3 piece rods in their sleeves in it, and because it’s a transport case it’s incredibly tough. Keeps my acolyte, cadence and both mine and my dad’s normarks safe and takes up less room in...

Insight GR60X Line or ESP Syncro XT Loaded.

Not used gr60x but I have used the original gr60 and if it’s anything like that then it will be as tough as old boots and never let you down. Bit springy on the spool maybe but that may have been my poor loading. Hopefully others have first hand experience. Synchro XT loaded I really didn’t get...

    Best pellets

I hope to give the ambush pellets a go when my vortex and hinders ones are used up. They seem quite highly rated, I must admit I’d never heard of them until this thread. Nothing wrong with what I’m using but no harm in trying other bits and bobs out. All part of the fun for me.

    Tench 2025

I had an impromptu evening session on Saturday on the float as neighbours had a loud party. All on waggler and corn, crayfish were a pain though (bonus decent roach too, apologies for poor photos)

    New Normark Rods

That may have been me if it was maggot drowning, I had a great day trotting for barbel on it at 12ft, ended the day with 11. I don’t think I’ll use mine at 14 very often, the river Lea is very narrow so it won’t be needed that often. Can confirm mine has zero of the issues detailed here. My...
