A pic from the D.Stour taken a week ago. Levels have since continued to drop and these fish have moved to deeper runs. It’s actually raining here for the first time in weeks as I write this post,… hopefully we’re get more than a few showers .

Hmm,… Iv‘e just spent a while trying to find some specific clarification on the legitimate use of what could be termed as countryside management tools and decided it’s a minefield. It would be interesting to clarify what tools can be legally carried and used on fisheries that are both on public...

Risking a tale from a decade ago that will probably make your eyes glaze over ,… but it’s cautionary advice. One late close season Sunday morning a good mate and I checked out one of our club owned stretches of river,.. we were both committee members at the time, and having served as a...

I’ve been using this for years Richard. Mine is by Martindale but there are similar makes out there,… cheap,.. lightweight and fits into a quiver long outside pocket easily . Best to use with a backhand swing,… good piece of kit IMO.

    Trotting for barbel

Some of my best days fishing both D.Stour and HAvon for barbel have been with the float. Admittedly this was back when the barbel population of both rivers was higher than present day. If I was trotting ( trundling) meat I would fish over depth,… hold the float back probably using a 5ssg loafer...

    Back in the 80s...

Used Trev’s shop a lot in the early 80’s,.. still got the catalogues somewhere. One of the best sources for rod building gear back in the day. Cheaper South Korean rods put an end to my rod building days but I still ordered pike gear from The Tackle Shop when N.F took over,…. I remember the shop...

Dorset Stour was rising again yesterday,… both me and kingfisher had to abandon our perches. River looked magical in the early mist though,…. levels still rising today.
