    Gwyn, i did say barbel will take maples but in my opinion pellets or boilies work better and give better results mate and also agree with you on artificial baits they will take barbel remembering that they are a bit bouyant, with artificial pellets i usually wrap paste around them.:)

    Andrew dont be put off by the noise of a large heavy dropper going in on a larger type river mate, the barbel know thats a pile of feed coming in and it dont take long for things to quiet down and fish to feed mate, the big symos are real heavy when full but zooms down to the riverbed before...

    mark, i use amnesia straight through on the reel and for hooklink use one of the korda type coated stuff, it solved most of my problems also i found plasticine lumped round a lead helped the lead to avoid getting jammed in the flinty type bottom as the plasticine is left behind and the lead...

    cc moores odyssey works fine all year round as a paste or a boilie or chops incidently speaking about krill, my dog loves it but was completely ignored by my carp in my pond both large and small fish, tastes much much too salty but they go crazy with tiny halibot or halips pellets:)

    Patrick, have a look the chris brown fishing tackle site, they produce really good handles and nets with screw in option of 6ft and 9ft, brilliant nets and chris is always ready to help via phone call:) ps if you see or get one you,ll never look back:)

    Iain, there is a very nice hotel opposite the church i n the square, the food and service is superb mate, you can even ask for free pain killers sat night before they ring the church bells next morning:eek: lovely harbour town, have a great time:)
