He'd have landed the first barbel if he had the right tackle. Didn't make the same mistake the second time around, though. But, a really great little video which puts some of the professionals to shame.
That's fine, Sam. Nothing wrong with a good debate unless it becomes personal. The post has been interesting and some good information has emerged. Strangely enough, I felt exactly the same as you about the carbon fibre post. My contribution on that topic would have been hearsay as opposed to...
Jim, you calculations are almost right. In short what would happen now, if you recalculated for 2 metres or 3 metres, is the effect of atmospheric pressure would decrease as a percentage of the total pressure. Agreed. The change in pressure would be the same at all depth though. If you mean that...
I appreciate that many of us have become restless with this post. When I used to watch Young Scientist of The Year, I picked up many tips.
Sam wrote: And water is compressible but had very little to do with any of this. Which confuses me as Jim stated he didn't understand the influence of...
The reason that you can transmit pressure by a liquid IS because liquids are not compressible. If you push the break pedal of your the car the pedal does not feel spongy because the hydraulic fluid transmits the pressure you apply by your foot to the brake. The liquid does not compress. If you...
If, Sam, you are talking about water in the vapour phase, (gas) then, yes, it is compressible. To all intents and purposes, liquids are not. That's why liquids are used in hydraulic systems.
Oh well, Kevin, I'd better retire from BFW until some new members are recruited. Having said that, can't really see much value in centrepins although Mr Crabtree did use one.
Geoff, your post makes a lot of sense to me. Just a couple of points to add. Many people think that atmospheric pressure makes a difference and I've never understood this as water is not compressible. I'm not saying they're necessarily wrong, but it makes little sense to me. Secondly, I guess...
I'm not sure what the interest is in centrepins anyway. I can see their value as a collector's item - a relic from yesteryear, but a reel totally unsuited to modern day barbel fishing. Perhaps ok teamed up with a match rod and 4lb line trotting for roach, bleak, gudgeon etc.
Ok, well thanks anyway, Jeremy. You can get rig wallets that long. In fact
23" long but these were made by Fox specifically for pike traces. Unfortunately, no longer made.
I appreciate that this post has focused on otter predation or not and has made the odd reference to cormorants. Close to where I live is a lake. In the middle of the lake is a small island with a barren tree. On the tree roosts 42 cormorants that's 42lb of fish a day, 294lb a week, 1176lb a...
Mic, I'll have a look at the timescale in which Court action may be taken. Did you purchase a new rod-tip and have you any correspondence with Drennan?
Me too
What is it a Ph.D, M.Phil, MSc. etc? I don't think it's worth discussing unless we have this information and the opportunity to look over it. Unless it's a secret?
