I fished opening day for a few hours and the rods haven’t been out since.
The water is too low on the W.Avon with zero flow - it’s also too bloody hot for me to sit out in too !!!
Am hoping to get out to the Wye next week (assuming it cools down) and will only float fish a well oxygenated stretch.
If you don’t get much response on here then go on FaceBook and search for a group called “Wild River Barbel”.
Someone on there will be able to advise as it’s mainly focused around French / Belgium / Dutch river barbel fishing.
I have a vintage WH Norris cane fly fishing rod that was gifted to me from a friend who does house clearances.
I live in Leamington Spa and Bill “Nocker” Norris used to have the tackle shop I used to go to in the 80’s so I’d love to out this rod to use.
It’s absolutely immaculate and looking...
I turned up and managed to grab my favourite peg, happy days, I thought, until I saw the bloke in his garden on the opposite side of the river setting up to fish too. Thankfully he was just float fishing under his feet so didn’t really get in my way.
Also, the drink I took with me exploded in...
This is similar to the Korum one but larger and likely better quality. 10% off first purchase too.
I’ve got a few bits from this brand (carp net / retaining sling) and the quality is second to none.

I’ve just joined HDAA after a few good sessions on the Wye last season. I was buying day tickets from Woody’s (very helpful) but he doesn’t open until 8:30 and I want to be fishing by 7am as it’s a 3-hr round trip.
I’ve done well with a smelly ground bait with no particles in as this tends to...
The image of me fishing the valley with a woolly hat on is about 10-steps from a camp site called “Camping Le Bellevue à Fumay
Thanks, yes that’s Ade’s old place it was a beautiful spot.
I think I just hit spawning time as catch rates were very low, one guy had been there a week and not had a...
Just spent the weekend fishing in Fumay, France.
Way out of my comfort zone on such a large and expansive river vs. Warks Avon I normally fish but a beautiful place to visit, with the weather being about as consistent as the local bar / restaurant opening hours !!!
Very few fish caught...
Still readable available but will be a different shape / recipe to when you used them last.

They still catch though so don’t be too put off. I’ve had barbel in the UK and French rivers using...
I don’t really fish the Leam, more the Avon and primarily at Barford (when there’s not a bloody match on).
Used to fish Wasperton / Charlecotte a lot but they’ve gone downhill in the last two years.
What about yourself ?
Yes there is a very big fish there. Came out twice last year.
I fish MF at the weekends in the summer and it’s a nightmare - by 7pm on a Friday there must be x30 lines in the water. It’s no wonder not much comes out. Midweek or a Sunday is likely the best time to fish it.
Not sure re Anchor...
The bag is the key thing for me - the larger it is, the more stuff you’ll be inclined to put in there.
I take the following when roving:
-Rod / reel (leave the rod bag in the car)
-1 pint maggot box with flouro / hooks / lead
-Freezer bag with chosen bait (usually meat)
-Net
-Mat
-Single bank...
