    Be extra careful out there!

Well done indeed Martin, how frightning that must have been for you both. The River Stour here at Throop is completely under water, all you can see is water for miles, it looks like one gigantic lake. This makes it safe for our anglers because its impossible to get onto the river bank. Be...

    Happy New Year!!

A very happy and sucessfull new year to you all. The rivers should a have some nice clean gravel, here at throop the rivers reached record levels at christmas then it dropped and the frost moved in. Now the river is rising fast again, who knows, we might wet a line again this year. Good...

    Keeping hooks to nylon tidy

Try a small piece of card which you slot top and bottom and keep that in a plastic bag or even better a matchmans hook wallet. I have used this method for years and have never had a tangle.

    Making paste .

That's sounds good, I will give that a try. Does it stay on the hook for over 30 minutes?

    Making paste .

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is how I make my cheese paste. Buy some Just-Rol puff pastry or short crust, the pack should contain two 340g blocks. Roll out one of these blocks using a rolling pin, lightly dust with some...

    hook

Hi Chris, i have used many hooks in my time, but this one is brilliant, it does not blunt when pulled across the gravel, it is strong and very sharp. Gardner Covert Talon Tip, I use a size 12 when I use a hair rig, and it has landed quite a few double figure Barbel. I was put onto these by...

    Dying on it's backside.

Hi Guys, as some of you have already stated, its gone very quiet on the Forum, its also like that on the other forum that I post on, as you all know I write the Throop reports every week and I struggle to get catch reports, and to me it seems that most of the catches are put onto Facebook. I...

    What Superglue?

Hi David, your jokes could be a touch better than Mr Forsyth on Strictly, mind you, I will be glad when they give him the EVO..... good humour mate, I love it. Brian,

    What Superglue?

Hi David, I find it easier and quicker to present my bait this way, I just hate the fiddling with bait stops and having to use baiting needles etc. I suppose it may be a factor that I don't have to put on glasses every time. In my opinion, if you are glueing two elip pellets together, then...

    What Superglue?

Nice one Neil, perhaps the tubes don't clog, hence the price. Brian.

    What Superglue?

I think we all agree that Loctite super glue is a very good bit of kit....BUT. The but is not the glue but the container that is forever clogging. I have used this product for many years, i wrote to the manufacturer to ask them is there any other way to stop this happening, perhaps they can...

Otters? Cormorants ? what about Eostrogen pollution

Hi again, I am still on the fishery at Throop, and would you believe it, a lady angler has just caught a tiny Barbel, just 6 inches long, so does that mean that there is a definate connection between the chemical and woman anglers. Brian

Otters? Cormorants ? what about Eostrogen pollution

Hi CHRIS, It's a well known fact that small Barbel hardly get caught, here at Throop on the Dorset Stour we have a good amount of very small Barbel, they can be seen on many of the shallows. The small Barbel are caught from time to time, these fall to very small baits such as maggots, but as...

    Be carefully

Hi Marcus, I just cant begin to image how frightening that must have been. Here at Throop we have some very bad overhanging banks that occur after the floods, we try to knock some of these into the river and we do warn anglers on our website to take care of these very dangerous banks. We...
