I fish the W.Avon at Barton and it's a tough stretch for Barbel I think, and I can only fish mornings so I don't think that is an optimum time either. I'm using a mixture of hookbaits, 8 and 14mm dumbbells, the dynamite baits busters and various boilies. I can manage a few chub but the barbel...
Thanks guys,
I'm currently using Drennan Gravel braid but then today with the W.Avon very low and clear I wondered if I should be using fluoro even though I'm not a big fan of it.
My hooklinks are coming down to 18 inches or less too.
Hi guys, during my sessions I'm messing around trying different hooklinks too much rather than just sticking with one. So, what's the general choice?
Braid
Coated braid (tungsten coated too)
Mono
Fluoro
And what sort of lengths? I try long ones just because that's what I've read but I don't...
Korum are part of the same group as Fox. So Fox stopped the specialist range because korum had that covered with more products and Korum stopped the Snapper range cause of Fox Rage.
I used to be a massive korum fan boy but lately their stuff is very meh! And I'm moving away. I just took a punt...
The bearings in the reels when they built here in Redditch were pressed fit into place (doubt the design changed after masterline ownership though), you won't easily replace them without the correct tools. The big bottom bearing was also held into place with a locking nut which was adjusted to...
Tackle box DV 32inch speci net. Cheap and does the job and packs away to strap to my handle.
I also have the folding spoons from AD Advanta brand. Bought in the sale, had no issues with them the larger size has a deep enough mesh.
Took a chance on the 1.25 version, it's going straight back.
Tip heavy and not a action I would call fast.
I now have the Drennan Twin Tip Duo 11ft 1.5lb and it's so much better, lighter, better balanced even with no reel on, I'm super happy with it. I'm just going to add a lighter 2oz tip...
I think it was a carp angler, Matthew Collins where I saw it, run ring pushes down onto the tail rubber if it's the same rig. I don't get that many Barbel out the W.Avon to worry about spooking them 😂
I had a play with the Drennan TT duo in 11ft 1.5lb, very nice light blank, if it were a bit...
I've used that tail rubber set up myself to create the semi fixed rig you describe, I dislike the bolt and run kit from Korum and saw the rig you describe on YT and switched over to it. I think I might go ahead and get the rod in question from the tackle box as my chub and light barbel rod and...
Hmm, gave me something to think about.
All my Chub have come on semi fixed (bolt and run) and running rigs with bigger leads or feeders with hair rigged baits while barbel fishing. I've yet to actually fish for chub specifically and have a barbel as a result.
Hi guys,
After my last post about the Korum Omega rods I've decided to stay clear of their stuff now and budget isn't going to stretch to a Torrix so I've now got my sights set on the DV Elite in 1.5lb from the Tackle Box as chub and light Barbel rod.
Anyone have any of the Elite range? Just...
Same here and my current pb chub is the same. I've never kept score on PB's before and I quit fishing for quite a few years so when I came back I've started keeping a little score.
Think I'm gonna scale down my gear on the Avon and fish 1.5lb rods mainly for the chub but still have enough in...
2022 season I had 1 barbel from the w.avon and I was fishing it at least twice a week through to end of autumn. I didn't Barbel fish much last year as perch took over for me. I'm back fishing for the Barbel but haven't had one yet.
We always used to oil the spindles on all the purist and bearing reels we made.
I've read somewhere the Korum pin is based on one that DAM used to make? I've never seen a pin from DAM though.
Saw one many years ago on the Rugby field next to Redstone caravan park in Stourport. Gorgeous thing it was but bloody huge and far too close for comfort when I saw it.
Yep, very impressed with what they have put together for £35.
Shame there will be a lot of people buying the new Korum pin to try without knowing about this one at nearly half the price.
Compared to my new Drennan Barbel I think I prefer the Omega personally. Having a play with one in the store it feels slightly better balanced in the hand, blanks are slimmer, it's slightly lighter than the Drennan and for me I prefer the faster action on the Omega. I get the feeling korum have...
