I'm hardly one to try and give advice, but smallest hook bait I use is around 12mm, be that either a pellet or boilie (mainly though I have a 15mm on the hook) . I'm fishing for Barbel but don't mind the Chub, and we all know how big their mouths are. I don't want any other nuisance fish picking...

I have some of that Guru Supernatural mono in the tackle pouch. Will be switching to just mono or Fluoro hooklinks, long lengths of braid I'm not confident are sitting tight to the bottom.

Yep, ESP Tungsten loaded or Soft Ghost for me now.

Just tested 10lb Drennan Gravel braid and 18lb Korda Basix in the sink. Both seem to float pretty well. Drennan Supplex Fluoro sunk like a brick. I'm not confident using uncoated braid now so will be using either a Tungsten coated or Fluoro.

The only Tungsten coated braid I've tried so far is the semi stiff ESP stuff. I really like it but find I can't straighten it by hand and need to steam it, so not ideal on the bank for me fishing shorter sessions. Would be ok if I used it in carp rig lengths that would fit onto the rig board in...
