Avon rod - lightweight eye choice

Hi Richard, acknowledge it is a bit of a half baked comparison. In absence of another one though that and gut instinct is what I currently have to go off, and previously read descriptions of the 1.25lb blank. Other people’s descriptions are also only so useful, as I’ve found out in the past...

    11ft 2lb Torrix

Morning I prefer an 11ft rod when fishing close in and/ or using a pin. I know people will say a ft doesn’t make any difference but I think it’s a nicer experience playing fish and handling the rod. In absence of an 11ft chimera 2 I am being drawn to the dark side. I’ve never used a Torrix...

Avon rod - lightweight eye choice

Hi Paul, thank you for the detailed feedback. I have to admit I wasn’t comparing like for like blanks. I had it next to my 11ft 1.75lb chimera which appears to me to be identical in thickness to the 1.25lb. It’s not just a foot shorter version of a chimera 2. I’ve got 8 rings plus tip on the...

How often do you replenish your mainline?

I’ve got a swim I won’t fish anymore after it became a ‘handful of those things’ and I tried to pull all my hair out 😂

How often do you replenish your mainline?

How come the different line on the centrepin Neil? Kevin, I’ve had 12lb gr60 and hydrotuff break on the Wye when I’m sure there’s been no pre-existing damage (pre casting out anyway). I’m pretty diligent with it but think sometimes it’s just one of those things.

Avon rod - lightweight eye choice

That's very useful, cheers Richard. The balance and the sloppy feeling in the tip is what doesn't feel quite right. Putting it side by side with a lighter rung chimera it feels quite noticeable. I have just tried it with a comparatively heavy centrepin, instead of a lightweight fixed spool...

Avon rod - lightweight eye choice

The eyes are a bit big and are k series or something similar that has a lot of metal work. It seems like they’re affecting the responsiveness and it feels a bit unwieldy. If you saw it im pretty sure you’d think, ‘what are those eyes doing on there’.

Avon rod - lightweight eye choice

just a confidence thing I think, most of my rods have doubles. I’m open to singles throughout though.

Avon rod - lightweight eye choice

I’ve got Kigans on a carp rod and they are really nice. Looks like they do single leg so would definately be open to those. Cheers.

Avon rod - lightweight eye choice

I had such an unjoyable experience with vortex airs on a carp rod. The liner coating was wearing off after a few uses. Are minimas going to be a different kettle of fish?

Avon rod - lightweight eye choice

Morning all I’ve got a handful of custom made rods and have generally been very happy with them. However, I got an 11ft 1.25lb chimera built last year and it was a total clanger. I’m looking to change the eyes on it as I think what I’ve got is adversely affecting its action. I was...

Dawn or dusk on the Wye?

I haven’t really fished this year but the last few years I found that in popular swims dusk could go by biteless. It was worth dropping back in an hour or two after dark as I think they got used to people just packing up at dusk or 15minutes in to dark. Doesn’t sound like you’ll have to worry...

    Specialist Videos

I have sporadically fished a few bits of the Thames with my dad for the last 15+ years and for much of that we had it almost entirely to ourselves. It was my slice of heaven and we fished from a little boat, occasionally having some luck and generally feeling free and unencumbered. The Thames...

    Tench 2024

Thank you. I’m on a carp lake for a few days but am currently more into the idea of catching my pb float caught tench. I haven’t float fished for gravel pit tench for 10+ years so am a bit of practice. I’m in a spot where they were fizzing the other day and I managed a little one yesterday...

    Tench 2024

Morning all, have people found tench to enjoy the morning sun, or are they equally as happy to feed first thing in the shade?

    Drennan acolyte float rod swap

Afternoon all I own a 14ft acolyte plus which I have used twice. I very much like it but wondered if anyone had a 15ft plus that they would like to swap for my 14ft? Feel free to pop me a message if so 🤟
