Sadly, unless you are fortunate enough to belong to a syndicate you have a choice of seriously overcrowded club lakes or these type of places. It's only going to get worse.
Fair play to you mate. Nothing wrong with any of that. I have a similar tale regarding the Carp fishing. Mine goes back to 1972 so the changes have been massive! I too struggle with it now even on syndicate lakes. I just feel like I'm in a hamster wheel and need to get off! Hope you find what...
Let us know how you find them for Barbel. I have a pair that Dave Lumb made me. P2's he calls them. Built as a drain and river Pike rod. I've had some good fish on them but can't really find anything to use them for nowadays. I wouldn't sell them though.
I'll give it a go. They'll either laugh at it or get it down quick! ( hopefully the latter) It's easy to assume they won't go for it on hard fished waters. A bit like the big lump.of meat for Barbel I guess. 👍
Hi Ian. Stour and Avon Chub are very tricky at times when maggot fishing. Often an 18 or even a 20 will get you bites you can't get on a bigger hook. With the right rod you can land them effectively on a 20. Sometimes a single maggot nicked in the side of the maggot on a 20 will get you a bite...
Make my own from base mix but a very good one that's caught me Chub and Barbel on the Stour, Avon and Severn is Dynamite Hot Krab n Krill. Much softer than many shelf life baits. Hook baits left on the window sill to harden for a couple of days. I know of some very good freezer baits you can...
Yes that's what I do. Run ring pushed onto the tail rubber. No. I don't get many on the Avon either. It's why I have adapted my rigs to be better suited to the excellent Chub but at the same time being effective for Barbel as well. I use the same rig on the Severn when I'm out and out Barbel...
By the way, I use a 1.75 rod but it does have a very fine tip, finer than my 1.6lb S/U Avon infact. I think another reason the bites I get aren't all that violent and fast many times is the long hooklink. It takes away much of the bolt effect. Sone people don't like long hooklinks worrying the...
Wasn't aware it had been on YouTube. So much for me thinking it was my set up! Nothing is original though is it . Someone, somewhere will have thought the same. No. I don't like the Korum bolt and run.
I caught a 7 plus Chub the other week where the bite was quite gentle. It just nodded and...
I once caught a 12lb Barbel on an elipse pellet superglued all over ( practically) to reduce small fish whittling it away so quickly. I know what you mean though Cliff! 🙂
Hi Mark. Can't comment on the rods but I'll tell you what I do on the Avon. It's a fast river and most of it isn't really suited to a quiver tip though I've used it in some of the slacker swims. I suppose what I do is half a bolt rig but I do like a bit of given in the set up. I prefer a lead on...
