The Gardner rucksack and quiver for me. The quiver is light and well balanced so doesn't constantly swing round. The rucksack is big but comfortable and holds everything you need for a full day. Bait and everything can be put in the rucksack so all you need to worry about is a seat. I can...
The Gardner quiver ( I bought mine on this site) is very simple in construction and light. I like the way it sits on the shoulder. It doesn't slide round all the time like the Korum ones I've had do. You can easily carry two made up rods and the wrap round flaps which are velcro fastened will...
I agree
I agree with you. It's even happening with weights of fish. People say 10.6 for example. What do they mean? 10lb 6oz or 10lb 10oz? (nearly anyway). I questioned it once on another site and I got some surprising responses being accused of being awkward and fussing about nothing. Those...
I agree with you. The middle Severn in the Arley, Highley, Hampton Loade areas is well away from the roads. I simply will not fish near busy roads. It costs me fish but I simply do not enjoy it. 🙂
No problem Michael. I don't know if you look at the Facebook group River Severn Barbel Fishing but some very good Chub get posted on there. Last season one highly accomplished angler who fishes around the Shrewsbury area caught one that was somewhere between 7.10 and 7.14 ( I can't remember...
Hi Michael. I live round about 3.30 - 3.45 hours away from the Severn so know your situation. I have fished The middle river from just below Bridgnorth to Arley. I fish for 4 or 5 days at at a time owing to the distance and having the luxury of being retired!
I also fish the BAA stretches...
I've learned something here! I got out my original 1lb 6oz rod which was sold as a SEER Rover. I then compared it with the SU version I built recently. It has a noticeably firmer action. I tried interchanging the tops and the SU is slightly wider so it's a loose fit. Looking at the tips closely...
Ralph. I think you will find the standard Avon has a 1lb 4oz tc ( 1 1/4 lb tc). The SU has a 1lb 6oz tc so a couple of ounces heavier. It's not rated in metric terms.
If it were me I'd go for a Harrison SU Avon 1lb 6oz tc. I have a couple. I also have the old Graham Phillips BQ. I think the Harrison might be a little bit more steely but I doubt you will be disappointed. For close range Barbel and Chub fishing it is excellent. I believe the standard Avon is...
Mark. The Johnson Ross Torrix's are nice but they come with a very short piece of cork infront of the reel seat. Best thing I can do is send you a picture of one of mine. Personally this isn't the best for centrepin fishing but it's a cheaper option than a custom build.
Bought a Gardner after driving over my Drennan. The thread came out the end under minimal pressure. Heavy to use but with a bit of araldite decent enough.
The Harrison SU Avon ( 1lb 6oz tc) is a very good rod for this type of fishing. The Torrix 11' 1.75 is highly rated but has a faster action which some people prefer. It's very light and has a very fine tip. You are possibly restricting yourself just using a pin but if that's what you want to do...
As you aren't leaving them on the rods ( nor do I) You might be interested in the NGT ones. I bought them. Not expensive but well made. Here's a picture.
