A little bit of tidying up.

Destruction of habitat on my river today.Normally shallow and clear, every bit of cover is safe haven from predators. Not from today. You can’t compare summer conditions to winter, but here’s a before and after on the river today .

    Korum Barbel rod

I’ll admit,I’m not a tackle tart.😄 And my rods don’t get treated with kid gloves. So I’m more comfortable with the budget end when it comes to rods.😊 I do have a short video of the Fox eos from a couple of weeks ago. That would show its action when I landed a 5lb. chub,if that’s any help to the...

    Korum Barbel rod

I have a couple of Korum rods, and find them good value for money. But I use a Fox eos 11’ 1.75lb. on my little river for barbel and chub, and I‘m very happy with it.I think I paid under £60 for it.

Best approach for low density water.

I think a lot depends on the water conditions. My river is low stock, and very low water, clear as well. But I’ve caught a few in the last week and a half.I’ve found that small baits and smallish hooks have worked. Fishing just two to three hours in an evening, feeding small pellets and superglued...

    Rod id

I presume the ‘TF’ stands for Total Fishing. You probably know that anyway.Matt Hayes fishing program on Sky tv that started in the 90’s. I used to look forward to that when I got Sky tv back in ’95.Enjoyed the Peter Stone and Trefor West segments. If I remember correctly,I was paying less than...

    Bank tramp or tackle tart?

After 51 years of being a painter and decorator, over 30 of them self employed.I’ve always aimed for perfection, not a brush stroke or a speck of dust was allowed on my finished work.My customers expected it. But now I’m retired,I hate perfection,it’s like a weight of my shoulders. So I’ll be...

    Prolonged heat

Scunthorpe Amalgamated Anglers have announced this morning, that all their fisheries will be closed from 0600hrs Sunday 17th.to 0600hrs Wednesday 20th.

    Prolonged heat

Too hot for me too.And you’re right about it’s a good time for a recce.I’m walking the banks and finding lots of features, gravel bars, deeper holes etc. My river is desperately low,and I don’t think anyone should be trying to catch barbel in just inches of warm water.Having said that, the barbel...

    Hook choice???

I use Bank tackle quick change swivels, and standard swivels, came highly recommended by other anglers.I would use their hooks after what others have said about the quality. But Pallatrax Gripz are my first choice.
