    The Close Season

Agreed, I couldn't care less what they do on those commercials. But I agree that natural lakes as well as mature estate lakes etc should also be given a rest. The only reason I fish still waters in the closed season is because I can. I can also go sea fishing (even though its a fairly terrible...

    The Close Season

This country is full of antiquated silly traditions...the vast majority of which I am very fond of (for no rational reason I might add), the closed season is no exception. I would hate to see the 16th consigned to the history books and nostalgic old comic strips. For me the reasons have never...

    Best Boot-footed Waist Waders

Savage Gear and Scierra breathable bootfoot waist waders all on the auction site at the moment...both well within your budget. Out of interest which thigh waders were you using? I like them for the summer but the 'hardware' pair I used last summer were anything but hardwearing...a new hole...

    The Great Rod Divide(?)

But even then Dave, its relative, Beachcasters tend to cost a bit more than freshwater rods. The Daiwa Supercasts I own compete directly with a tip tornado SM and, for me, beat them in 'fishability' hands down, and are half the price. I had a wiggle of the leeda 'icon' series in a shop the other...

    beats for the Wye Trip

Marvin, I have never fished seven sisters so couldn't tell you about its reliability, but I can confirm there are definitely doubles in courtfield, although I have never had one over ten and a quarter so not 'big' doubles, but there are a few fish that beat 10, and there will be some bigger in...

    beats for the Wye Trip

I can recommend holme lacey 3 (WUF) for numbers of fish that are (or at least were) willing to feed pretty well all day, mostly small around the 4-5 bracket, head to the bottom of the beat and there is a lovely long stretch with plenty of overhanging/fallen trees, the guilly here is very nice...

    1st time with the pin

Why were you winding the opposite way? Did you set it up with the line off the top?

    Lost the mojo...

Paul, If you really fancy a challenge then you could always chase a Wye Salmon. Very difficult beasts but can be big.

    Chub in the winter

Weird that it stopped on exactly the same day you mentioned it. Maybe it overheard us talking about it and got all shy and insecure. edit. Just noticed it was the 6th it stopped not the 8th.

    Chub in the winter

Chaps, how often does that Knappmill temperature site update? It has stopped on the 6th for me and not updated since, I am wondering if its my computer or if its only updated every week or so.

    Hook pull / bumped fish

Hook size vs bait size rang an alarm bell for me also.

    Feeder rod recommendations

Or the drennan series 7 Avon quiver 1.5 are good for the money.

    Chub in the winter

Looked at the weather forecast on Monday...discounted anything after Wednesday, you must be mad!...Although it may put the flounder over in Poole on the feed...dammit I've just talked myself into freezing myself half to death Thursday night.

    Chub in the winter

To be honest Mark I did think I was fishing pretty well, we all have those days where everything we touch turns to muck, but this wasn't one of those. I carefully fed each swim for 10-15 minutes before trotting through and generally had my hook bait either in or on the edge of my loose feed...

    Chub in the winter

Thanks for that Dave, that's a good link for temp info also (in fact I forgot my thermometer yesterday but a solitary reading wouldn't have done me much good anyway). I wouldn't consider bagging a six a 'struggle' week mind! I didn't mind the blank too much to be honest as I really just wanted...

    Chub in the winter

Fished Throop (beat 2) for the first time on sunday after moving down to Bournemouth for a new job. The river looked immaculate carrying a touch of colour, conditions were perfect, mild and still. Long and short was a complete blank! Only one fellow I spoke to had caught anything (3lber)...which...

    Christchurch or Ringwood AA

Agreed up to a point. However where there are low food levels in my experience it is the otter that has been the main cause of it...and i have witnessed piles of bones on a regular basis...perch, pike, barbel, chub...particularly when they have a few nearly mature kits. However, i am also...

    Christchurch or Ringwood AA

Yeah thats good news. Maybe the issue on my local bit i metioned earlier was that tarka wasnt present...and then suddenly was? The fish therefore maybe has not learnt a flight response that fish that had grown up with otters had learnt throughout their young lives, leading to the sitting duck...
