Thanks chaps, maybe I was a little unlucky, or maybe they were all liners...I will give the lip hook more of a bash and in fact I have never noticed a particular problem with it before and have been doing it for perch this way since I started fishing.
The reason I am suddenly questioning it...
To the chaps out there that do a bit of live baiting, what is the best way you have found to hook them up? I was fishing a little lake yesterday for my first perch session of the autumn, and while I managed a new PB at 2lb 7oz (to be bettered again soon!) I did miss a lot of takes (which in this...
Yup I have wondered about this for a while, particularly irritating ordering hooks for fly tying. What is the difference say, between a wide gape 12 vs a short shank 10? Absolutely none, in theory they are the same thing with different marketing spiel...in reality they could be sizes apart you...
Thanks Dave/Jason,
I am not so fussed about the barbel float rod at first...in fact the one ive got is perfectly adequate if not a joy...its more the silver fish rod I was after advice on, my rod is rated 2-8lb and although very through actioned with a light tip the average line rating is...
Hi All,
I have always been a fan of trotting with the pins and have been using an old 13ft Abu power match rod for years (rated 2-8lbs I believe). While I have to say it has been a brilliant servant, a real do anything type of rod that never feels too light or heavy in action from targeting...
Never used them but Nash do their scope and dwarf (think its dwarf anyway) range which are two piece telescopic hybrid thing. pack down to 3ft I believe...maybe smaller. Worth a look, come in 1.75lb tc also
I am of the opinion that the more that goes into a rig, the more there is for the fish to see.
I just fish a running ledger with the line straight through to the hook, and avoid hair rigging if possible. Mind you I wouldn't say I catch more than anybody else. In fact if this season is...
Nothing wrong with Korum powers, have been using them while fishing the wye, that river is harsh and really tests a hook, both with numbers of fish and strong flow, and the bedrock...never an issue...or not yet anyway...better than a lot of hooks costing 3 times as much. Do love a raptor also...
I must say I have had my drennans for what must be 8 years now! I still find them plenty bright enough and they have never flicked off on the cast (I must be lucky!). Maybe I got a particularly good set? I do always use a clip one size too large and push it down the rod tip a couple of inches...
Haven't noticed barbel spooking off it, have taken a fair few using X-Line...I also had not noticed improved abrasion resistance...mind you I think I was using big game or maybe korum xpert before which is pretty tough stuff.
I use X-Line and don't mind it...to be honest its no better than mono though and far more expensive...not sure how 'invisible' it is as it still seems to spook chub fairly solidly in 8 and 10lbs. I will not be re-stocking with it but I haven't had any problems using it...is susceptible to...
I have had some non branded ones for a while now and they work well (having said that I seldom use them, just occasionally when ledgering for tench or perch), no frills thought, you cant even adjust the volume, just an on off switch, just be sure to take the batteries out when not in use if you...
A friend of mine caught one on a gold ribbed hare's ear once (with a tin head). Imagine a PTN would work well also (again with a heavy tin head). I think the key is ensuring it is bumping the bottom so some of the Czech nymph style heavy inverted bead heads would be my first port of call. Would...
