I use them a lot in a 10 on the tidal Trent and have few issues with the points turning over. Tremendous hook holds so flatten down the barbs, especially if you’re unhooking Bream in the edge as you’ll need forceps a lot otherwise.
Even if the points go they’ve been on offer for £1.50 a pack...
I replaced my Baitrunners, SS2600’s and Emblems with Okuma Inception 6000’s, which I think are unreal value for money. I now use them on both sets of Barbel rods and my Carp and pike setups. I’ve got various smaller reels for float, feeder and lure fishing though.
That’s not even massive for a Carp lake these days. Some charge £100 just to go on a waiting list!
I can see clubs with stretches of river increasing their prices regularly, simply due to demand. Look at the Trent. As day tickets stretches get more sparse, clubs have ever longer waiting lists...
We are. Earlier in the thread someone claimed that climate change was being used to control us. The government don’t need an excuse for that, they’re doing it anyway.
I haven’t forgotten at all. As I’ve mentioned already, it‘s the unprecedented pace of climate change that is down to humans, and largely Co2 production. It’s not in doubt and not argued by anyone credible - it’s our fault.
You’re absolutely right with the pollution part, which is exactly what...
They can’t in this situation though, because denial of man-made climate change isn’t in any way a ‘truth’. There’s decades and a mountain of research and evidence to prove its happening. I’m not a zealot in any way and it’s a bit strange to suggest anyone agreeing with the proven facts is one...
GB news isn’t a credible news source. Its a right wing conspiracy-prone load of nonsense, convincing it‘s very small amount of viewers that everyone is else is a sheep and they’re the enlightened ones. Ironic that it’s everyone else that’s being ‘controlled’….
That’s the thing though. The...
It’s the speed of climate change that proves humanity is the main driver. Of course the Earth goes through cyclical climate change, but it has never warmed at the rate it is currently and that’s down to human pollution. 8 billion people on the planet and still some think we’re not having an...
Good to hear. When I bought the Inception 6000’s I had sets of Daiwa SS2600, Emblem 45scw, Baitrunner 10000RB and the old Baitrunner 4500GT’s. I’ve since sold all of them except the emblems, which I’ll be eBaying soon as well!
Sold all mine, they feel like wobbly relics compared to Okuma Inception 6000’s, which are simply a better reel IMO. The SS look great and I wanted to love them but just couldn’t get past their flaws. I found the retrieve wasn’t great for getting the lead up quickly on the rocky tidal as well...
Last season was the last time I fished it, would fish it more but I’m on a syndicate so fish there usually.
Never had any trouble at Bobs and I’ve been there by myself on some winter sessions. Yes there’s a traveller camp across the river, but apart from a lot of transit tippers going in and...
Try Bobs Island. It gets quieter this time of year, the bailiff and owners have put a lot of work in and it’s worth a visit. There’s a locked gate with code required for access now too (you ring the bailiff on the number on the gate).
£10 7am-7pm or 7pm-7am.
I use 2.75 13’ Hi S HW. I’ve also got a set of the Fox Duo Lite 1.75/2.25. Since first using the FS rods, the Fox haven’t got a look in on the Trent and I use the FS all year round now. I’ve had 2 hook pulls in 50+ Barbel, and I play my fish pretty hard as I fish a lot of snaggy swims on the...
That’s why I think Elite Barbel is such a great book. I’ve read it a few times, and every time it feels like I’m there on the Ouse, looking at those fish or climbing over the stiles! Brilliant storytelling of a golden era in Barbel fishing.
Similar here, sold my SS2600’s, Emblems and most of my Baitrunners now. If I had to be picky I’d want a one touch folding handle on the Okumas, but there’s nothing else I can fault them on.
Another facet to this is sharp hooks as mentioned above. It’s anecdotal, but I trialled sharpened hooks on one rod v the other, and the numbers said I got more takes with the sharpened hook. Unfortunately, it’s not really viable on gravel due to the amount of times you have to change the hook...
I tend to fish longer sessions, but even when on the local river I’ll use an alarm with snag ears as the front rod rest, because why not. Nobody can stare at a rod tip and never look away.
Thanks for that. At the end of the day we all fish for Barbel because of our love of this awesome fish, and looking after them is always the first priority. On the local river I’ll take a normal beanie mat as obviously carrying a metal framed cradle around isn’t happening, but given the option...
Long winded? It takes no more time than any other way. So once you’ve stuck your net on the grass with a double figure Barbel in it and you want a photo, or even not but go to unhook it, what protection does the fish have if it flaps around? Sorry but I don’t accept that putting big Barbel on...
