no problem here simon and agree with your sentiment's,we can all learn from one another etc.
as i said in previous post's my comment's are aimed at those not in the know and most of the stuff i preach is old hand information i've picked up from this very site:)
nice to have a debate without...
very true simon and if they were spawning i wouldn't be fishing for them!!
especially the big females who will be at their lower weight's and lesser condition than the horny males.
my post was general about condition's and i don't say fish for them while they are spawning.(i'm talking about...
for the newbies benefit
my post above is aimed at lads who are new to barbel fishing and aren't possibly member's of bfw.
i personally think if they can take some of what i wrote and use it then thats a bonus,i'm happy with my practice's and i'm certain that i act in the best interest of fish...
my views/grey areas
some good food for thought here and i can see the argument for using a net or a tube:eek:
never thought i'd say that!
now the fishes safety is paramount to me but i won't be carrying either a tube or keepnet with me!
when i land a barbel no matter of it's size i unhook in...
circus
the problem with barbel fishing at the moment is it's becoming like the carp scene which as been ruined by the chav's who have no decorum.
i know plenty of good carp angler's who have moved onto the river's because the tranquility of the carp water's as gone.
they've tried to seek this...
3ft twitch
in answer to the slack line :
my words have been twisted do you really think i reckon the line is slack:confused:
the line will be slacker than a taut line without the bow as mike as explained:)
paul said that there's no way a fish can hook itself without a tight line not me and i...
i had a look at the record list and it's look's as if dave as accepted this as a record(sorry dave) i know dave does usually contact current record holder's and experienced angler's from said river's first(does his homework)
mark's doubt's the weight as he recognises the fish and my gut is this...
10 yd swim
i weren't that fat then:eek: but yes trev with 4oz feeder's on a low river putting 10 in before the start my face must of been a picture:D
you 2 rods first one landed in line with me while trevor was10 yd below behind a willow causing the flow to go the other way:eek:
sorry no congrats from me
very nice mark the reason why fish need recognising in my opinion;)
i'd put it at 12lb and in october i wouldn't imagine it being at its top weight!
why do lads have to make themselves look stupid i was only talking about the fact today that 14lb barbel are very...
i fished the ribble about 2 month ago and the even though it was in flood the barbel weren't searching for food(low water temps)
i had to go to them and had to fish 40 yd out and although i was picking weed/grass/leaves up i had 3 barbel while others struggled.
this tactic isn't the most...
i think what waynes doing is something that i do myself in flood when i need to be fishing at distance.
i cast upstream put a big bow in it and keep my rod high, the bow allow's you to use less lead and critically balance's the rig. when the fish pick's the bait up it feel's no resistance...
im no expert on the teme/lower severn but for the last few season's spent a bit of time on them.
last season there were far more barbel in the lower teme this coincided with less water,so in my opinion many came from the severn to spawn in the shallower gravelly water!
we dont really fish the...
