A little light reading for the closed season...

It's a fascinating piece of work and a real eye opener, just goes to show the fragility and complicated factors involved.

A little light reading for the closed season...

Not sure if this has been shared on here but just found the finished piece from the Bournemouth University Study on the Gt Ouse, not to be confused with the Karen Twine work from several years ago. This one is more focused on the gravels and spawning that was funded by the EA and Barbel Society...

Free Spirit Barbel Seeker 12ft 1.75tc

Decided to sell my last Free Spirit, I want to get a matching pair of cheaper rods that I don't mind knocking about! It's a superb rod in great condition, I'm just not worthy! £140 collection from Huntingdon but will meet in reasonable distance.

    can anyone help please

Out of curiosity, if one went and brought a bankstick on the continent, would it be M10 or something, or still 3/8"?

    Cheap, REALLY cheap, bite alarms

I recently got a set of the Korum alarms with a receiver for about 45 quid. Decent enough alarms for the money, used a fair bit and haven't let me down. Worth a look.

    Martin Salter blog

Steve, nail on the head. One of the most measured posts in the whole debacle. I'm not going to bother sharing my thoughts again, they'll make about as much difference as the BS will on it all. I know I'll be spending my 30 odd quid on carp bait though this spring rather than renewing my...

    The Close Season

For me, the arguments to retain the closed season are completely flawed. The whole thing about letting the banks rest and nature have a break is nonsense as the stillwater venues I fish all year round have no adverse affect on the flora and fauna. There's an abundance of birdlife and mammals...

    Fox specialist 45" brolly review

Had mine over a year now and can't recommend it enough. It's held up in all the storms that we've had and really isn't that heavy for roving: I ditched the sleeve it came in, and just stick it on top of my unhooking cradle and carry it by the sling handles between swims.

Free Spirit Barbel Seeker 12ft 1.75tc and Grice & Young centrepin

I don't really want to post the rod though, would rather meet as I've no tubes or anything to send it in.

Price drop to £120, rod needs a new home!

Free Spirit Barbel Seeker 12ft 1.75tc and Grice & Young centrepin

As titled in great condition, one of a pair that I'm selling as I tend to just use one rod nowadays £140 Grice and Young Avon Royal Supreme in fair condition, bombproof reel, needs a good clean and oil to get it spinning free again but runs true enough £30 Collect Huntingdon...

    Harrison Chimera 12ft 1.75tc

I'll have a root around to see if I can find a rod tube and get a price from UPS. Might not be while tomorrow evening now of that's ok?

    Harrison Chimera 12ft 1.75tc

Well used but well loved rod. Superb action, one of the best in its day. Selling as I've acquired too many rods and I'd like it to go to a home where it will be used, rather than gather dust. The cork handle is solid but grubby, the reel seat and rest of the rod is fine. Collection in Brampton...

Is it me? Is it real?

Turns out it was the neighbours Asian Bengal! A 7th generation descendant of an Asian Leopard. The owner contacted the Staffordshire(?) Observer and the local bill as she was worried that the trophy hunters would turn out and shoot her pet. On the subject, I went to a zoo today and saw a pair...

    Help with weight guess.

There was some research published recently via the Barbel Society that there were different "strains" if you like in different rivers in the country. If I recall, the testing was done on scale samples.

    Nutrabaits blue oyster boilies

Yep barbel will eat them, along with just about every other boilie out there if it's put in front of them when they're hungry.

    Landing net woes

Ngt 36" triangle net. Paid 99p for it on fleabay and never had a problem, landed loads of fish to mid doubles. I really don't know why barbel anglers are so hung up about landing nets or what on earth they do to break them. If you want to get really fancy, Advanta do a 36" or 42" triangle net...

Thanks for clearing that up, mystery solved.

    Supposed Ray Walton claim??

Or got old and died, as everything does....... Funny how it's always massive, old fish that get eaten by otters and never small, younger fish.
