Can tell you from experience Adam, if you do get a reel from Chris, it will me mint. He looks after his kit very well, puts me to shame! :-) I have had a reel from Chris in the past, he is a top fella.

How was last night for you darling!!

A four hour session on the Nidd until 9 pm last night. Careful feeding and prep of my swim for an hour without wetting a line. Just about to cast in, and an otter popped its head up in my swim.....cough! :-) Anyways, one bite, one chub at 3 3/4 on stinky cheese paste. A wonderful night...

    Luck or Skill....?

As regards subjects that have been "done to death", it is worth considering that new anglers are always moving in to this branch of the sport and visiting the site perhaps for the first time. I have learned from this thread, and more importantly, it has made me THINK about my approach more than...

Lightweight, breathable but most of all WATERPROOF!

Heads up for the army goretex jackets and trousers. Buy the new stuff advertised on ebay as the used gear can be poor qaulity. I paid £40 squid for a new jacket, £25 for the trousers, with the weather as it is....a great investment :-).

    otters

I wish you were wrong about the Nidd Andrew, but you are not. My own returns for the river have deminished, finding gutted fish has increased, 3 last time out. The challenges our river systems face of course are not from otters alone. But how big is the problem in the North, I fish the Ouse...

    Chair

I thought this morning as I dragged my weary bones over a few fields waist high in undergrowth, cold and soaking wet, the firm that comes up with a truly TRULY light but sturdy chair for the roving angler will make a fortune. Chopping the legs right down and calling it a "low profile" is...

    Hooks

"The hook" from Pallatrax. No nonsense strong little devils, good shape. As a greedy Yorkshireman, the price is good as well :-)

Drennan super specialist twist lock L N pole

I have given up on the Drennan, the Gardner pole may be a tad heavy, but its bullet proof, a great bit of kit that wont pack up on you in the middle of the night miles from anywhere (yes I have issues with mine! :-)). I love Drennan's stuff and have three rods etc, but for the money, the...

    Hook lengths

Mini rig bins all the way, cheap as chips on Fleabay, and if a Yorkshireman tells you they are a bargin!!!! :D

    Rod advice.

This next season I shall be spending much of my time on a small snaggy river, pretty much hook and hold most of the time. Having a couple of visits last season, a 12ft rod was a massive hinderence as the banks are very overgrown with over head tree cover in most swims and very little room...

    rod tip hi or low?

Thats amazing, I also use the 45 to 60 degree method on my rod and catch nowt! :-)))) Just to make sure I keep up my increadible hit rate, I shall be going onto a rock hard water next season in an attempt to keep my enviable record totally intact! :-)))))))
