I've been working on making the perfect rig to give me the perfect lift method bite. Main problem has been getting consistent, smooth and accurate casts in a strong cross-wind with a 12ft rod into ~8ft of water, which necessitated the length of line between float to hook being 8.5ft+. 4th sesh...
Hi @Mike Thompson, if you're flavouring meat then just put a couple of drops of flavour into a plastic bag and then rub the bag between your hands to smear the flavour all over the inner surface of the bag. Then cut your meat up into the size(s) you're going to use on the hook (plus any leftover...
So here's one 'for the mix' ... on several occasions over the years I've come across a bait (well, a flavour of boilie) that's appeared to work better than others (I don't believe in 'super-baits', just some that might do better than others). After catching on the bait I've then take the...
It's a poser really. If you watch the videos of barbel spooking off line that they brush against that they were previously unaware of, you'd be led to believe that it's best to use highly conspicuous line. Personally I don't see it as an issue ...but if/when I do want to try to 'hide' my line, I...
Get a Birmingham Anglers Association card @Trevor Summerfield and you'll have miles of water downstream too....and many, many elsewhere. Burt's can get very busy. Loads of cover upstream of Burt's.
The only 'low stretch' line I've used as a main line is Drennan Double Strength (7lb@0.20mm) for chub fishing small rivers/streams but I binned it after a few sessions. It's "low stretch" as it's pre-stretched, so snap-offs are much more likely. Maybe it would be ok to use for distance fishing...
Hi y'all ... I've decided to thin my rod collection down a bit as there's some rods that I've hardly ever used/not used for years. I'll be selling a Nash Tri-tip (as I've got 5!!), a pair of F/S Hi-S BW (only seen 4hrs on the bank as I've stopped fishing the Lower) and a J.W Avon.
Unfortunately...
There's at least 14 pegs : a car park swim, 7 in the top field (one a double swim so 8 really) and a good 7 in the lower field. The club also has a field 3/4 of a mile downstream, but that's well overgrown/high above NSL.
The word "Nash" is usually on the steel 'butt button' (was going to put 'plug' but ..... 😂 )
N.b.. I'd say they were seriously good rods for any money.
These days my standard rods for the Severn at normal/summer levels have been a pair of Hi S SU (12ft) which are ~1.75lb tc. But when there's a couple of metres of coloured water on I tend to rove with a single rod using large meat or lobs under a 12ft Hi S 'Barbel' @2lb tc. Although there's only...
....problem with glycerine is that it tends to only work in the short term, as it's 100% water soluble. I'd go for Vaseline, or spray on line floatant (Drennan stuff is good). Used the latter down to -7'c and it seemed to help (as it's highly hydrophobic/water repellent). Yet to try Muscilin for...
