If you have paid and have proof of identity on you the EA officers can check it on their hand held computers, happened to me when I forgot to take it to the Severn.
Paul
You are correct but the last 3 electrofishing surveys of the Hampshire avon by the EA have been cancelled which makes it difficult to see what state the river is in. Must admit I was glad the last planned one was cancelled 2 years ago as one of our stretches of river was due to be...

I agree with your post and specifically clubs and societies getting together to share information, I have offered the assistance of Ringwood and district to Martin and he has said he may call on us.
Every time this topic or the close season is discussed it becomes a boxing match with the...
Damien if you read what I wrote above the photo you will see why I posted it, as I said Martin Salter has now added it to the blog, I never made a statement about otters eating barbel everywhere. Having said that if as shown in the picture otters eat barbel on the Dorset stour wouldn't you agree...
Typical of you Damian, if you put a comment like "It shows an otter taking a barbel" explain what you mean. Good job Martin Salter isn't as biased as you, regardless of what certain people say you will back them.

Thanks for your kind words, I am certainly not an "expert" but have been an angler for nearly 60 years. Being secretary of RDAA puts me in the privileged position of hearing the views of a lot of anglers on the otter situation and honestly VERY few don't see them as an issue.
The work...
Anthony, licences to shoot cormorants have been in place for the past few years. In the Hampshire Avon valley we have been able to shoot 140 birds this year an increase from last years 115 birds. It isn't having much if any effect on the number of cormorants monitored in their roosts each year...
I posted on Martins blog regarding a 14lb barbel being dragged along the bank in the middle of the day witnessed by RDAA'S Lower stour manager. Ian Crook then went on and said that all the reports he had heard had never been substantiated by photos insinuating it didn't happen. I have tried to...
Hi Ray
Cannot say for sure but as a lot of salmon have been seen by the EA in the last couple of years at Blandford I assume there is a salmon pass at Longham.
Just found this online:
It is considered that all the weirs on the River Stour downstream of Blanford Forum are either...
We introduced 1500, 6 inch barbel into beat 2 ,3 years ago, some of the barbel were dye marked but this will have disappeared now as it only lasts about 18 months. We don't know how successful this will be but hope some of the barbel survive.
The club take part in fly monitoring on the Stour and...
The joy of fishing rivers Stephen, if they were always in the same area it would be boring and everybody would know where to catch them.
I went to one of the clubs quieter areas today, no barbel but a 7-4 chub, all the more appreciated because it didn't come from where everybody is fishing.
Yes Ray, I know about the Royalty / Throop fish travelling but the one known as the "traveller" in the angling press was as you confirmed an Ouse fish. Lots of barbel travel , the Throop record was caught on beat3, beat2 and above Parley a distance of about 6 miles. A lot of smaller barbel...
Lots of areas that are underfished contain barbel that anglers don't publicise so they don't become overfished.
Brian, I have a feeling that the "traveller" was an Ouse fish not one that was caught on the Avon and Stour, sure Ray will be able to confirm.
