    Cat

This has happened with several publications. Most likely, in the not too distant past, they had a reader survey which told them that the majority of anglers these days are of the pole and puddle brigade. This inevitably leads to a change of format, and it wont be long before the likes of Bob...

cray problems fishers green the lea

On Clacton Pier we used to use a drop net with a fish head tied in the middle which was lowered to the bottom, and then pulled up after 20 minutes, and was full of hermit crabs for bait. Might work for crays. Or try weighting down a couple of fish heads or something similar and lowering them in...

    Best centrepin for legering?

Michael, why on earth would a rotten bottom be required for a pin and not a coffee grinder. I can't see why one would snag a weight more than the other?

Hello James, Not actually used them, but I would suggest that Fox Arma Mesh will do a better job. ATB Colin

    Best centrepin for legering?

Hello George, As you have probably gathered from all the replies every one has their own favourite. If you can find one the old Grice and Young, Avon Royal Supreme has an adjustable drag. I like the position of the ratchet leaver on them as it is right on the top and can be flicked on and off...

    How hard is it.....

What is your problem? If that is what someone enjoys doing and it is not against the law or harmful to the fish then good luck to them. It is not for us to say your aproach is wrong and you should not do this, and must do that. If someone enjoys experimenting with bait ingredients, or designing...

    Fluorocarbon hooklengths.

Fluoro attached to a small swivel with a grinner knot. This will pull through PVA bags / mesh with a stringer needle, and will attach to a quick clip easily with no damage.

    How hard is it.....

Colin, for me it is down to how you enjoy your fishing, and where you fish. Some people like to make a science out of everything, and if that gives them a kick then fine. Others like Ray Walton adopt a much more simple approach. Having confidence in what you are doing is key. I agree with...

    Fishing Hats

Aus. bush hat for me. Wind plenty of Dubbin in to the leather and it is water proof, the rim shields your eys from the sun and prevents the tops of ears getting sun burnt. ATB Colin

    Bait dropping and roving

;)Gary, you are an optimist talking about spooking the shoal. Always be half full it is the only way to succeed. With a medium size dropper, fishing 3 or 4 swims, I would normally put in 4 to 5 of hemp and corn and one of mixed pellets. Repeate this three times with a hour between each. Rest it...

    Using a back lead

A piece of silicone tubing half an inch long. A piece of 3mm dowle half an inch long, one end slightly rounded. Slide tube up line, and push dowle in to silicone tube. This holds tight enough to keep weight in place but will slide down the line if snaged and wont damage the line. ATB Colin

The cult of the John Wilson Avon.

Chris, you say not light enough for small still water fish well the answer is in the name, Avon. It was never intended for small fish. My original has a full cork handle and a spigot joint, and the second one I bought had a duplon grip and a put over joint. For me they have to be the most...
