    Mitchell Avorunner size

Hello Dave, I have been using these for about 3 years and have had no problems at all. I use the 3500 size which I find plenty large enough as they will take 200 mts of 10lb line, and I use them on the Severn, tidal Arun, H. Avon, as well as smaller rivers.

Is Barbel fishing on the decline?

Barbel fishing isn't, but Barbel might be.

    Meatballs.

Have a hook link with a small swivel and a size 4 hook, pass a baiting needle through the meat ball, hook up the swivel and pull it through the meat ball until the hook shank is in the bait. Then insert a small piece of grass in the bend to prevent it pulling through. Cast with a gentle lob...

Brian Gay is always plugging Christchurch waters in the Angers Mail, and whenever there is an article on clubs they invariably have a picture of a Christchurch book.

    dissolving paste

crumble some black pudding into a bowl, mix in a dollop of spread, utterly buterly or something like that until it is quite smooth. If you want a fast break up add bread crumbs or semolina until the paste is the required consistency. For a slower break down add flour, as the flour will make it...

    bait apron

I picked one up in a garden centre it was supposed to be for keeping all your gardening bits and pieces handy, but if you undo the stitching some of the pockets you are left with a good size pouch, pockets for forceps etc., and loops for a catty. Can't remember the make, but it was less than a...

I frequently use a single 22mm pellet on its own as a flood water bait, with some success all through the winter.

    Conversion to carbelist?!

Very interesting Stephen, but can't see why a "carp approach" means you have to use carp rods. Why not use your standard 1.75 TC barbel rods? I nearly always fish off a buzzer these days as the older I get I tend to nod off more frequently. I use a silicon stop behind a weight, which is enough...

What do you look for in a rucksack?

I have just purchased a ruck sack that ticks most of my boxes. It is 70lt, although does not look that big, it is waterproof, has zipped pockets, comfortable shoulder straps, long straps on the front that will easily take my chair, and less than £30. It is a Shakespeare Salt and designed for...
