    Barbelon a pin

George, I would agree with every word. There is no mystique about the Wallis cast, just google it and you will find plenty of good advice, like you I was self taught in under an hour. It is so quick, and as you say delivers with a gentle plop, and not a big splash.

    Do you smoke?

Gave up 5 years ago, I was spending £75 a week on fags, pipe and cigars. Now the tought of putting one in my mouth is yuk! It is not untill you have given up that you realise how much smokers stink like old ash trays, and the worst critic is a reformed smoker.

    Barbelon a pin

Pete Marshal, As It happens I am a pretty good caster having competed in several beach casting tournaments over the years, but that has nothing to do with it. What I said was "it casts LIKE a pin" not the same as a pin,and nothing to do with casting prowess, and not able to achieve the same...

    Barbelon a pin

Who would have thought that such an inocent show of opinion would have stired up so much vitriol in such a short time it is like Celtic v Rangers. For all the tackle tarts who are missing the point as to which is the most superior reel, the one that combines the best atributes of both Pin and...

    Braid

Hello Neil, Plenty of good advice there. I don't think that the type of line would have contributed to loosing that fish. If you ask "what is the best line" on here you will have as many answers as there are brands because everyone has their favourite. just go in your local shop and ask what...

Last night I had a dream....

I was fishing on the Rother trying out a new paste bait, and had 5 Barbel 2 of them doubles, real scrappers in a tight swim. Then I fell off my chair and woke up.

    sturgeon pellets

They are used to feed Sturgeon {Word edited} as Trout pellets are fed to trout, and Salmon pellets are fed to Salmon. There not difficult was it:rolleyes: Gerry they can be found in some aquarist centres and some bait companies. Someone has used them to good effect on the Western Rother...

    Pellet Quality

Hello Keith, Probably me not explaining it very well. Cut your hook link to the required length, I use braid and mono, tie a 4 turn grinner on one end, take a pellet of the size you are going to use, and insert it in to the grinner loop, pull the loop tight trapping the pellet in the noose...

    Bank Farm, Arley

Has any one stayed at Bank Farm, on the Severn at Arley, recently? Do you know if the farmer has opened up the parking past the Equestrian centre down by the pedestrian access over the Severn Valley Railway down to the island? Thanks Colin

    Pellet Quality

I agree with Julian Peacock. Use a grinner knot to make a lassoo, insert pellet, tighten up the noose, select the required hair length, tie hook on with knotless knot, job done. Just open up the loop and insert new pellet when required and tighten up. Can't understand the need to mess about...

    Coated braid stripping tool?

Swiss army knife The Climber has a hole in the reamer which just the job for stripping, it also has a multitude of other uses to the angler. Thumb nail also works quite well

    Line for Wallis Casting

I use Maxima mono, and braid for bouncing meat around. Be careful if you are casting heavy weights as you can end up with a line cut when you spin the spool. Wear a finger stool for safety.

    bait bag

The smaller of the Korum Bait & Bits bag. Had one for a year now, very good.

    rod repair

Sam, you can repair it by inserting a carbon section, fixing it with Araldite, and then whiping over, but it will never feel the same, and you will have lost confidence in it. So best bin it, and put your hand in your pocket and get another. ATB Colin
