    Perch

I was using my Darent Valley Avon quiver for perch yesterday and got seen off big time by a barbel that took a fancy to worm, 5lb hooklink couldn't take the strain! Made up for it later when this 2.10 beauty took a 5" bleak fished on the same rod.

    What hooks?

I used to be a fan of the Drennan Contintental boilie hook, but for the last couple of seasons I've been using Guru MWG in various sizes for my barbel and tench fishing and they've been very reliable.

    New rods

It's always down to individual preference, the Fox rods that I'm unhappy with the build quality of were, in my opinion, much better fish playing rods than the Greys Prodigy's that they replaced, I always felt they were too soft. However I have a 13' Prodigy TXL that I use for heavy float work...

    New rods

I have a pair of the Fox Duo-Lite twin tips and seriously thinking of dumping them for something better, the build quality of the handles is poor, both suffer from the reel seats rotating on the blank which is very annoying as the rods don't sit properly on rests as the reel weight goes off...

    Sallopettes

Can't beat the Aldi ones for value and warmth, perhaps too warm on the milder days! I've had a pair for a few years and they are standing up far better than the Wychwood ones I had previously, also picked up another pair last time they were on sale as a future backup.

    Grayling

First nippy morning of Autumn this morning saw me heading to a Dee tributary with a light float rod, waders and bait apron. Had a fun day with lots of grayling to about 1.5lbs, along with a few dace, trout and a couple of small chub, can't think of a better way to spend the day!

    Reel Help

I've just updated my trotting reel to a Shimano Exage 2500FD, a great improvement over the FB as the chamfered spool lip helps line feed off much smoother than the old straight edged spool. I do enjoy using a pin as well but the fixed spool is more versatile.

    Targeting Roach on the Severn

Plenty of quality roach below Bridgnorth, as Dean said they seem to respond well to small pellets, but I'm sure they would also fall to the old hemp and tares approach on the float.

    Anybody stopped fishing?

I had my first trip of the season yesterday, having been unable to drive far since the end of May thanks to sciatica. Enjoyed myself on a light float rod from 16.00 to 19.00 catching a few dace, bleak and chublets. Then I put the barbel rods out and was rewarded with my first of the season at...

    its raining !!!!!

Raining steadily here on the Welsh border but I doubt it will have much effect on levels in the Severn, ground is so dry it's like a huge sponge! After tomorrow rain chances for the rest of the week are small, at least the temperature is finally down.

    Anybody stopped fishing?

Belated happy birthday Neil, I'll be joining you on that number shortly before the season opens again next year, let's hope we have a better start weather wise. All the talk of rain seems to be confined to the south, here on the Welsh border we have had some, but it didn't start until about 10pm...

    Anybody stopped fishing?

I agree with Terry on this, can't the moderators remove the posts which are off topic and request the members involved not to post like this on a general forum.

    Float fishing for carp

Not fished for carp for more than 10 years now but had some fun in the past with fish to just shy of 20 on a Mk1 Drennan Tench Float, centrepin and 8lb Maxima straight through with corn as bait on a size 8, used to be easy to get them feeding at 2 rods out by loose feeding hemp and corn on that...

    Anybody stopped fishing?

As I've been suffering with sciatica I haven't been fishing at all since the end of May but did manage a short session on the Dee the other day when I was feeling better after a session with my osteopath. I was wading and float fishing maggot in fast, streamy water, caught a few dace, salmon...

    Anybody stopped fishing?

Been laid up with sciatica since the end of May so can't get out to fish, it's driving me mad!

    Centrepin identification?

I have a Harlow myself, I'd agree with Mike about that one being a copy as the one I have has the word 'HARLOW' across the front of the drum. The big drum gives a good rate of retrieve when trotting.

    Lost my mojo

Not been fishing this month, came back from Florida at the end of May which always has a bad effect on my UK fishing, can't get into static fishing after 3 weeks+ on the lures. However I also came back with a hamstring strain which has made it difficult to get out, driving more than a few miles...

    Which mono?

Always stick with Big Game, just bought top up supplies of 10 and 12lb while I was in Florida. 12lb still available in clear but could only find 10lb in a new colour - coastal brown, will have to see if there's any change in the properties, might be a while as I've only just respooled my reels...

    Barbel on the dane

I think you will find the PAAS stretches of the Dane as good as any for barbel, not a huge head of them, but some decent fish can be found.

    Molasses

I used to use molasses meal and ground hemp as a base for my groundbait, loved the smell, not sure how well it worked on the fish though!
