    Mullet

It is indeed. It's looking like round two is going to be tomorrow evening. I'm really looking forward to it! To continue the boxing metaphor, I'm sure I'll take another beating, but it's such an absorbing, exciting style of fishing I don't really care!!

    Mullet

Had a go for a few mullet on the river Wey in Weymouth last week. Didn't manage to catch one but I did suffer a hook pull after hooking one, which, strangely enough, I was quite happy with!! Saw some absolute monsters down there too. Am planning another trip for one evening later this week...

    R.I.P Heather

The above comment was unnecessarily personal and entirely unprovoked. Have your opinions by all means, but attacks like this only serve as a catalyst to the type of thread we are now witnessing. I'm sure an apology would go a long way to finally putting this thread to rest, but I don't...

    Barbel meeting in Oxford.

Hi Paul, assuming the meeting doesn't clash with work or anything else, I will be there. Cheers, Stu

    Crucian carp

Yeah, I think it must have been carrying spawn but it certainly looked and felt bloated. As I said above, at the time nothing seemed out of the ordinary about the fish, but looking at the photo it definitely looks a bit odd. As Paul said, it's the mouth that doesn't look quite right to me. It...

    Crucian carp

Funny you should say that, when I looked back at the photos I thought it looked a bit 'wrong' too. Although at the time there wasn't a doubt in my mind and all of the smaller fish were typical little crucians. What does everyone else think?

    Crucian carp

I agree with Paul, the rod you are using should be fine - with the exception of really heavy rods, it shouldn't make too much difference, the only thing the crucians see is your terminal tackle! That said, I use Drennan Series 7 Avon/ Quiver (Quavon as I like to call it!). Strong but still...

    Crucian carp

Darren/ Paul, You're right about ISIS - I believe their lake over at the waterpark has a few crucians in it. Bought the book last year with the intention of having a go for them but didn't get round to fishing the place once!! Indecision and too much choice really is a curse for an angler...

    Crucian carp

Started my crucian campaign this morning and got off to a flyer... Biggest 2.05 (below) along with another four of around 1lb. Happy days! Lets hope Wednesday proves as productive on the river! <a href="http://s355.photobucket.com/albums/r446/Stuartwright4/?action=view&current=DSC08171-1.jpg"...

    Big roach

Terry, Agree completely that Duncan should be congratulated. Irrespective of where his fish come from (in the plural), they are all excellent fish and heard earned I'm sure. As for trying Lynch Hill, I would love to, but sadly can't justify stumping up that amount of cash. However, as Colin...

    Big roach

I agree Colin. I think a lot of the problem is that youngsters coming into the sport are often expect the type of instant success they read about in the angling press, especially in carp fishing where the commercials/ circuit waters can virtually guarantee you a '20' the first time you go...

    Big roach

Colin, I think the original post in this thread was referring to some 'history' Mr Charman has on a certain stretch of the Loddon, so it isn't just a case of staying tight-lipped about a certain venue on this occasion. Besides, I would happily put a lot of money on it being Lynch...

    An alternative viewpoint?

Keith, What a fantastic and inspiring post. Well done on having such a great season and thank you for sharing your thoughts and ideas. I'm sure many in your position wouldn't have gone to the trouble and would have just continued to enjoy their success quietly - it's a credit to you that you...

    Big roach

Quote: "Duncan, who was fishing in open water and not close to any bars or features, was using what he calls the standard ‘Lynch Hill roach rig’, his standard set-up when fishing for big roach." Lynch Hill + Roach = Willow Lake! Easy! :) Looks like a roach/ rudd hybrid to me anyway! ha ha!

    Chub

Every minute counts before the 15th... A 45 minute session straight after work this evening produced this nice 6lber! Had all sorts of trouble getting the camera to focus in the low light, but at least I got a photo! :)

    What to do??

Thanks Dave, that's interesting to know. Although, as Colin pointed out, I suspect you may be 'plagued' by the carp if you actually tried to target the roach - not that it will stop me trying at some point!!:)

    What to do??

You're telling me mate! Although it hasn't broken me just yet, so I'll be there once we get some consistent double figure temperatures. Really looking forward to it actually. Hopefully see you and Tom on there :)

    What to do??

Nick, that wouldn't be a certain head banger of a gravel pit near Oxford that you're talking about would it? I was aware that Clattercote held lots of small roach, but didn't realise it produced larger specimens? Does anyone have any idea how big they go? Stu

how wrong was your local weather forecast today

I was expeting the worst as I was on the upper Bristol Avon today and that area had a terrible weather forecast. As it turned out, conditions were almost ideal!! Had a cracking bag of roach, chub and trout!!

    This weekend...

Ha ha! Thanks Colin. If he thinks he owns the whole river and is such a good guide, surely I'd be a fool to contemplate fishing the river without his tutelage!! Come to think of it, I've no idea how I managed to catch last time without his help! :D:D Thanks for the good luck for Sunday - I...
