What fish are you catching ?

Surroundings, as much as possible I like to be in the middle of nowhere or for it to feel like that at least. I don’t like fishing where there is the chance of someone setting up next to me or in my line of sight. Funnily enough I know quite a few of such places withn pretty close proximity of...

Cheers Tony, its always good to hear some first hand information (i only mentioned comizos as a reference to body shape but get your point). Alex, i think Paul means he likes fishing in a sexual way.

Im a barbel angler and love the species, and love fishing for them in their natural riverine environment. I hold them in the highest regard. But, I am also of the opinion that it is important not to loose sight of the fact that they are just a fish. Perhaps the just makes it sound too harsh...

    Fish care Antiseptic kits

I know its wrong to anthropomorphise, but, having just watched Spurs loose to west ham for the 3rd time this season and wanting to quite literally never see anything again as a result, i thought id stick a blade of grass in my eye. I must report back that i can still see. I know its wrong to...

That is pure conjecture on your part Neil. What studies are you referring to? Are you referring to survival or growth? A quick glance through some studies into stillwater barbel reveals some interesting stuff. One chap found they do well in stillwater compared the middle severn. Another that...

Cozimo barbel do very well in stillwaters. With exactly the same body dynamics (whatever they are!). Barbel are just a fish, one that we love to fish for. Just because we like fishing for them in fast flowing gravelly rivers does not mean that is the only conditions barbel can thrive in.

Be'jesus, even more pseudoshyte! An alien environment to a fish is when you hook it and pull it out into the air to have your picture taken. If your worried about putting barbel into alien environments you better not take them out of water!

Arent ponds wet then Neil? You did actually describe the pleasure salmon anglers and barbel anglers get as being similar, at least your practising your knots in the closed season even if you are tying yourself up in them! You are anthromorphising when discussing 'the design' of barbel and...

If they have given up on rivers why are they constantly re-stocking the Great Ouse? When have the EA said river anglers should give up and move onto stillwaters? Or are you making assumptions based on your perceptions of EA policy?

Spot on post by Mr Anderson. Surely we should not let elitism cloud our view on what in essence is just a fish? We love rivers and barbel and should not need to dress this up with pseudo science/shyte? Barbel have evolved to live in water, it matters not a jot if it is still or running. There...

    Brazen Otter

I would love to know what the exact same moaners on this thread have done to improve their local rivers since moaning about exactly the same thing this time last year. I bet it amounts to typing 6 million words on the internet and thats it.

Is anyone having problems with BFW pages loading?

I have that problem on my Ipad Andy. It freezes as you go to open a new page but refreshing sorts it out.

    Big chub

Depends on the prevailing conditions I'd say. After the floods we have just had I would imagine as the rivers drop the chub will really go on the feed. Ideal conditions for smelly baits of which chub love. I shall be chubbing a heavily coloured river this weekend with bread and pastes for...

    Karen Twine research

Another lady is carrying on in a similar vein to what Karen did. I think she is doing her research with the University of Bournmouth. Im not sure if she is using the same fish or if she would actually be able to track them or if she is going to tag some more?

    Dying on it's backside.

I think everyone has missed the main reason that the forums not as enlightening as it once was; Derek stopped posting. The thought of discovering his magic rig or waiting for the design of his quality street tin bait dropper kept everyone on their feet and maintained innovative postings!
