    10’6 Andy Sliwa

Hi Neil, it possible to describe the action of the blank please. I have never seen the rod or the Teme, I don’t even know where it is! I know describing the action of a blank is a big ask since everyone’s interpretation of action is different. But at the moment I don’t know if it is a brute of...

    Float rod for Trent barbel

Thanks Richard, it was a little difficult to glue up, I think they would easy on abbreviated handles but I like full cork on my rods. With guides and blanks not trading, it’s now much more difficult to get the parts, I won’t be making my own rods in the near future. Even when guides and blanks...

    Float rod for Trent barbel

I know them as vss reel seats, here is one with the fore grip from a KDPS seat. Agreed really comfy to hold.

    Another tackle shop going

Thanks Steve, at some time I will want to build another rod, so it’s good to hear your opinion.

    Another tackle shop going

Hi Steve, I have a Harrison 1.4lb which is the 1lb 6oz I have found it a bit soft, very nice but a bit soft. I have been wondering how the 1.6lb, 1lb 10oz compares and you seem well placed to describe the difference. Did you ever feel the 11ft 1.75lb Torrix may have been a better option rather...

    The search for perfection

As far as I am aware a spliced tip and a “fixed” quiver is just like a telescopic section that has jammed. A bit of thread neatly bound around the tip stops it retracting back into the hollow section of the rod. Finished with a bit of varnish it is fixed in place. No epoxy or varnish creeping...

    The search for perfection

Thanks for the advice, it does not look like an impossibly now. I think this might be a closed season project.

    The search for perfection

Hi Richard, congranulations on achieving your objective. I have a problem which must be common since there are lots of reports of broken rod tips. I have a Silstar diaflex with a broken tip. I’m am using it at its shortened length but would like to restore it to its original 4.2m. Its original...

    The search for perfection

Wow fantastic weight reduction, just reward for a brave modification. Was there steel in the butt to balance the rod?

    Who made this blank?

The wind has dropped a bit so I’ve been able to open the garage without fear of it being blown in. Had a look at the reel seat, it just has the Fuji logo. But a good point well worth another look.

    New custom Torrix finished.

If you want to try white, but are not sure about it and don’t want the permanance of paint, just wrap plumbers PTFE tape round the tip and see how you feel about it. It stays on well if put on tightly, but comes off easy when you want it to.

    Who made this blank?

Thanks Steve that would be great.

    Who made this blank?

Hi Steve, Thanks for removing any shadow of doubt about their origin. Is there a chance you can post a picture or two of the 12 footer? I would like to see what rings were used and an idea of their spacing. If there is already an accepted ring pattern for this blank I would like to use it.

    Who made this blank?

Thanks everyone for pointing to North Western.

    Drennan rod socks.

How to protect the unused tip of a twin tip was a concern to me particularly when the quivertip was unused. Leaving a tip protector on it seemed to be courting disaster and leaving it unprotected in a quiver an invitation to every branch on the bank. My solution was to cut up an old Diawa pole...

    Who made this blank?

Many thanks for your thoughts, I too was thinking it might be North Western Avon and nothing else has been suggested, so I guess that’s what it is. The term floppy action sounds a bit unkind, but I cannot deny that it is an accurate description. It was certainly hard to hit sharp chub bites at...

    Who made this blank?

Many years ago before such a rod was popular, I wanted a rod for float fishing for barbel. My local tackle dealer offered me a Kevlar blank, so you now know it was really some time ago because they were still adding Kevlar to carbon rods then. It was a 12ft Kevlar Avon 1 1/4lb test curve...

    Harrison rod information

I have started doing the same thing on a 14ft GTI SU myself. My rod was already fully built on an unground blank. The butt was quite tatty so I have totally stripped and ground the blank. Before I did this I put a 1.75lb weight on it to get an idea of potential ring spacing. Picture below. The...

    Cheaper pins

Thanks for your opinions on the Lewtham Leeds reel, seems to be a good starter. I think it will do fine for trotting less so for legering in rests since it does not have a clicker. It just has a clamping arrangement for when you don’t want a free spool.
