To be honest catching chub over 5lb I'm finding relatively easy on the Avon no matter what tactics or bait I use, they are my blank saver! The barbel though are a different matter. I am over thinking things massively though so just need to fish I nice simple rig and be done with it.

I guess there's absolutely nothing wrong with a good old mono hooklink. And I already have some 10 and 12lb mainline left over plus some spools of Korum Smokescreen mono hooklink, although I'm going off their products.

Hmm, gave me something to think about. All my Chub have come on semi fixed (bolt and run) and running rigs with bigger leads or feeders with hair rigged baits while barbel fishing. I've yet to actually fish for chub specifically and have a barbel as a result.
