    What would you buy ?

Had a quick look at the link. Not impressed with their spelling of salopettes!

    What would you buy ?

Bit of a difficult one to answer not knowing your situation. If it's a special birthday, then buy something you'll always use and remember it by. A trip to Redmire (if you're into that sort of thing) would be amazing, but at the same time if you blanked in miserable weather, you might not want...

    The fishery predation survey

Joe, carp are not an indigenous species and as omnivores will eat fish eggs. You tell the bivvy brigade that they've all got to go! :)

    Rig for pellet

Michael, in all honest truth I can't be sure the hook hasn't caught up in the weed. It depends on how much flow we're talking about. Tungsten putty on the fluoro just above the braid could help but in slow flows, PVA foam could be used on the hook to protect it until it settles. There are still...

    Rig for pellet

Size 8 hook, 2 x 10mm elips on a hair rig. The rig I use is a combi rig with 3 to 4 feet of heavy fluoro (20lb) to a couple of inches of 12lb braid. Ideally you want to be upstreaming so that you are playing the fish downstream and away from the weed.

Do your Baits and boilies change come winter?

I can't recall such a generalised derogatory remark directed at the forum in all the years I've been on here. You are lucky that anyone has replied positively to such a statement. Good luck with your fishing.

    John Bailey Barbel Society Ambassador

We may have to stand corrected, Mark. I think we are confusing his stance on predation by otters, where he argues that they haven't had the claimed impact: http://www.edp24.co.uk/sport/let-s-put-the-otter-menace-into-a-bit-of-perspective-1-4999264

    John Bailey Barbel Society Ambassador

Mark I'm with you on that but he has changed his tune. The following is taken from: http://www.edp24.co.uk/sport/john-bailey-when-science-goes-only-part-way-to-saving-our-fisheries-1-5148931 At a Wensum Working Group meeting last week, Rob Dryden gave an excellent summary of the EA’s attempts...

    Whose good for pellets?

Bob wrote: Bob, it would be more apt if you 'binned' yourself. :)

    Whose good for pellets?

Derek, I use these: https://www.anglingdirect.co.uk/esp-bait-drill-and-needle The secret is not to try and drill it in one go. Drill so far, then blow the bits off the drill and continue. Used the same method again today with the usual success. :)

    Whose good for pellets?

Three 10mm elips (new shape) drilled and hair-rigged worked for me last week. Bob, if you're ever getting rid of anything else, you know who we are! :)

    Whose good for pellets?

I feel like crying! P.S. I don't remember you trying to give them away on BFW.

    Whose good for pellets?

Bob....binned? Really? Binned the one wonder bait that has never blown!!!! You could have sold those on ebay for an absolute mint!

    Headtorch warning

I've always used red to protect my night vision and was led to believe that green was better for map reading (and helping to protect night vision). However, this is from the following http://www.flashlightuniversity.com/led-colors-and-uses/ Red (630 nm): Red LEDs are do not appear as bright to...

    Fishing Safe

Thanks for the demonstration paul...it's a pity you didn't film it! :) On a different note, if wearing waders, here is some simple but effective advice: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dKwObngww3g

    PVA Bags

Jonathan, are you using perforated bags? If not, are you puncturing them numerous times with a baiting needle (or similar)? Also, as suggested, get your lead in the bag with your groundbait etc. Don't worry about tying it on, just wet the edges of the PVA bag and seal it up (it sticks to itself)...

    Fishing Safe

A quick reminder (I've posted this before) but if you do end up in the river and being washed downstream, manoeuvre yourself so that you are on your back and going feet first. These will bear any impact you sustain with objects. Use your arms to scull yourself towards the bank, but please avoid...
